Recently all I've been focused on is my swing and the sheer mechanics of the swing being simply overwhelming, so today midway through a slightly disappointing round I decided that as long as my posture and grip was about right then that's all that matter, i would then just swing with whatever felt natural. It worked! I then parred the next 5 holes of my 9 hole game.

I think that you have hit the nail on the head. I have said several times on here that too many people spend far too long getting wrapped up in doing everything perfectly by the book. Get your grip correct and your posture and it is amazing how well you will hit the ball. Look at people like Furyk, horrible non text book type swing. But he has a good set up that is why he can play golf to such a high level. Do you think he is worried about all the mechanics being by the book.

Yeah recently I've noticed especially on the US tour there are so many young golfers with the same perfectly rhythmical swings but will they ever be as successful as Furyk, probably not

What I really worked at was my posture and grip with my pro but then it was my own going really was what made me cock up my swing and rhythm

My pro has been hammering one thing into my brain since December when I started having lessons with him - "substance over style". It doesn't matter how it looks as long as you know where the clubhead is travelling and you can control the face at impact

The more you practice something the more it ingrains itself, sometimes it's there when you no longer need to think about it. Personally I think it's IMPOSSIBLE to just 'swing'.

It was probably more like you had been wanting it to be... you just relaxed and let it all happen.

Nice shooting mate!

I see your point but it's more that as long as I know where my risks are cocking and where my arms reach the top of my swing accompanied with a good posture then I know that I'll make decent contact
