A question about Qualifiers & Non-qualifiers

Bob, as far as I'm aware there is no rule that says Cat I cannot be cut from a competition played off yellow tees. A comp is either qualifying or not for all categories

As far as I am concerned all comps should be off white tees and casual golf off the yellows.
To re-phrase....
Cat I golfers cannot get cut through general play which is normally off the yellows.

Just don't agree about yellows Bob. Consider a club with two courses. One a Championship Par 72 SSS 72 off the whites and the other a shorter Par 72 SSS 70 off the whites. Should the committee only run qualifying comps off the "proper" championship course and somehow "relegate" the shorter course? That would be silly but what most clubs actually have is two similar courses on the same patch of ground (does that matter ??) where the tees just happen to be yellow on one of them. Running comps off yellows just gives the committee flexibility. For example our seniors comps are generally run on the yellow course as are junior comps.

All in all, it doesn't really matter which tees are used. The key point is that clubs shouldn't run comps as non-qualifiers when there is no good reason and only having the yellow course available, say in winter, isn't one.

Is the right answer.........

I certainly wouldn't be happy if I was a member of a golf club and I turned up to play in a medal and was told I would have to play off the yellow tees which had been hacked to pieces by a society the day before.
I grew up playing golf off yellow tees where the whites were kept for competitions only.

I do however agree that clubs should hold qualifiers all year round as long as condition allow.

You lot had better not be hacking our tees up, and that includes you Bob. ;)

We play medals off the white wooden blocks which are level with the White concrete blocks marking the official yardage, s'fords off White wooden blocks level with the yellow concrete marker. All the hackers play off tees of the day which are yellow wooden blocks forward of the official yellow markers so the comp tees white or yellow don't get hacked up too much.

We tend to play two or three midweek medals and a similar number of midweek stablefords off the yellows. It has a CSS/SS score worked out and so can be a qualifier. I think the club do it to as a way of freshening it up. A lot of our guys only play off the whites so a shorter course on fast running fairways in summer can present fresh challenges

medals are off whites, supplementaries have to be off whites. whites are always in the vicinity of the white disc(2 clubs/yards?)
stablefords can be off whites or yellows but yellows have only recently been officially measured so can now, despite the mutterings of the handicap sec, be qualifiers if played from the disc.
the yellow blocks can be anywhere, especially at weekends when they shorten the course to speed things up (it doesn't)
for some strange reason all ladies comps including medals are always off the blocks and not off the red disc.
winter of course all bets are off as all the tees are together on most winter tees and are all non-qualifiers
