I played in our May Stableford yesterday and played really well. I had 39 points which included four birdies. I had two 2s as well so, by my standards, I should be over the moon.

But....

I can't stop thinking about two silly shots - the first was a tap in putt on the 2nd that, rather than take my time, mark it and then see it home, I rushed upto and missed and then a duffed chip on the 11th.

Has anyone else had a round where afterwards you should be very pleased with your overall game and yet you can't stop thinking about the bad shots??

I know I'm being a knob but I know that the round should have been better than 39 points.... :D

Let it go man. 39 points in that wind is pretty tidy golf. Yes the missed putt is a real pain in the backside and we all duff chips (Colsaerts in extra time this morning!) but you clearly hit plenty of good ones. I think alot of us are too guilty about remembering the bad ones and not taking the time to give ourselves credit for the good stuff too

as a high capper I do every round.

yesterday shot a 99 (not great but ok) but got 35 points inc a hat trick of pars on front 9 and 1 par on back 9.

I had 3 8's and 3 7's, wasted 2 shots in bunkers, 2 oob's and a rushed shot from rough cos I stropped and cost me an extra 2 as I duffed it onto a worse position.

went round in 29 putts so can only blame poor course management going after long approaches or taking on 10% success shots

for me off 28 its part of the learning curve so I take the positives knowing I can score a hell of a lot better even with my limited talents!!!

next time mark the putt ;)

yes AW you are a knob, now put the silly hat on, stand in teh corner and think about what you didnt do....

On a serious note, how many of us have a great round, yet only think of the couple of crap shots that we co**ed up... pthats golf.

Why do we do that though?? Is it something that's engrained in our subconcious??

I know that I should be chuffed and I am but I've got this annoying voice/feeling that keeps bringing me back to the duffed shots. Why am I not happy??

the pride in us and the want to improve makes us always want to do better, good rounds could have always been great rounds, but the words "could have" are key.

The ammount of posts on here that we see where people have shot their PB, but they always say " but if it wasnt for"..... if you have made them mistakes and still shot good points scoring in them conditions, be happy, have a beer, or try and seduce the misses..... infact, seduce someone elses to celebrate :D

Two ways of looking at this AW.

Golf psychologist's view - put all the negative thoughts out of your mind and remember the good shots and holes.

Forum view - KNOB. :p :p

Mark it and take your time. The reason that we have the handicaps we have is because we make those silly mistakes.

:D :D

Can any of us say that even during our best round we didn't leave at least 2 shots on the course ?

Enjoy your really good round AW,the perfect round has never been played.

I know what you mean Dave and its right to be upset about the crap shots. If you didnt think about the shots that cost you afterwards how do you learn from them?

Good shooting.
