A Decent Golfer

The idea of handicap golf is so that golfers with different skillsets can happily play together.

When Ping and GM had a game at Walton Heath there were three lucky guys playing with a pro. You'll have to ask them if it was a decent game.

I was lucky enough to be playing with Jammie Dodger (off 5) against two other 5 handicap golfers.

At the time I was playing off a poor 18 ( but I did practice my backside off for 4 or 5 weeks before the game).

I played a few shots better than my handicap, so nothing outstanding.

I played well, we won, the other guys enjoyed it, and I didn't ruin anyones round.

That's all a decent golfer needs to do IMO.

On the other hand, if I was to play tomorrow, I'd be walking off the course in shame and embarrassment, my game is so poor.

[h=2]Re: A Decent Golfer[/h]... is one who leaves the course with more balls than he started with.

:whoo:

So my dad, who has arthritis and can hardly swing a club, but has a well trained Jack Russell, is a decent golfer?

I think he's just written me out of his will, and put you in instead. (Don't worry, he's also broke as well as crap - the one thing I've inherited is his golf ability )

firstly my comment was a bit tongue in cheek, but surly some one who takes the game seriously should be playing 2-3 times a week and could be classed as a golfer less than that and your some one who plays golf.I don't agree that the more rounds you play automatically makes you better if your happy scuffing it round in 100 every time you play that's fine and no matter how many rounds you play you don't improve but are happy thats fine, but this post was about driving and i still stand by my opinion that getting off the tee and into a good position is key to scoring low as well as having a well rounded game in all aspects iron play, chipping and putting,to your h/c analogy i play of low single figures but i have been playing over 35 years.

My reply to your comment was also a bit tongue in cheek. I just plucked that handicap out of the air. I am not saying there is anything wrong with someone playing that amount and not improving but if it happened to me I would be very disappointed and personally would hope that I would be hitting those low handicaps. I think you are getting bit mixed up with threads as there is no mention of driving in this one.

i know sorry brain was not in gear.

A decent golfer is one who is smiling teeing off the first and still smiling putting on the 18th (and may be a little wobbley walking out of the 19th lol), some people whatever the h/cap they have will always try their level best and get enjoyment out of it, they will play the game in the spirit its intended, repair pitch marks, divots etc and come back the next day still smiling no matter what they scored the previous day!!!!!
