910H and D2 - birthday treat?

I thought I'd stop at direct golf, Cambridge tonight after work and try out the Titleist 910 D2 and H. As some of you may know, I am looking at changing my bag. I'm looking for clubs that will take me to the next level and think I've got as far as I can with mine (mainly irons).. So I thought my new irons would be 4-PW, still undecided on make/model so think I will need a hybrid to take over 2/3 iron duty.

My birthday is comin up this month so think I will get one and after trying to 910H today I think I'm sold! They only had 21* Stiff, looking at 19* really but thought I'd have a bash. Having swung a club for a couple of weeks and hit my first shot, straight down the middle with a nice shape.. Hit a few more and they all landed within the same spot, it was quite wet so they weren't getting much roll but I can imagine I would be gaining a few more yards from a 19* with firm ground.

It wasn't too heavy and felt like a wood, unlike my stell shafted MX950 3/4 hybrids. It felt really nice at address and every strike felft soft off the face, it was taped up with some industrial clear tape but I was still happy with the results. As for the D2, this was a 10.5* Reg, wanted stiff but they didn't have one, I looked at the settings and it wasn't set up as standard, but I was striking it pure and straight and when I hit a good shot it went.

Think I have found 2 additions for my new bag and with my birthday coming up I think I know what I want :D

I have enough now for my irons aswell so just need to make a decision, still like the MP59's, but not sure if i'm biting off more than I can chew, I was striking them well but they do not have much forgiveness, so the odd shot i don't hit well might not be worth the £699 price tag... decisions!
 
i love the 910 series great clubs, have 3 of them :)

you wont regret going for it, have a go with the kai'li shaft if you can

mp59's do look a little bladey, id go for the mp53 if i had choice, looks gorgeous in the flesh and a little easier to hit

Yeah that's a good point, I wonder what the prices will be though as direct golf have the hybrid at £159 and D2 at £235.. Anyone know the price of the fitting? I guess they take it off your bill.

Give them a ring mate got to be worth a try. Cant see them being much different in price to be honest unless you have a special shaft upgrade. I have D2 Driver and its great and is forgiving for a Titleist. Never a brand I thought I would be able to do justice to but it is easy to hit. The 910 Hybrid is good as well I have had a hit with one and it is a good club. The fairways were a pig to hit though. Also with the fitting centre you can be sure you will be fitted to the best possible spec. Not knocking Direct Golf but I think you will be advised to give the fitting centre a try

You don't buy from Titleist direct. You pay for the fitting and they give you the specs and you can buy where you want.

I did a fitting up there earlier in the year and can thoroughly recommend it and the 910 range

Phil, especially as its a birthday gift, you would be crazy to not go to St Ives, all hooked up to a launch monitor, hitting out on to their outdoor range, Prov1/x/NXT balls and the complete choice of shafts.

Its all about ball striking, from the few I saw you hit @ woburn the 53's will be perfect, however the 59's to me are very similar and if I was buying now I would be considering both, looks wise the 59's are gorgeous.

As Hawkeye says the great thing is they dont sell to you, you need to get a pro / someone with a Titleist account to book you (£40)and then when they have spec'd your clubs you can go wherever you want, I stuck with my club pro, just in case anything went wrong.

Worth noting, on certain days, if you go for a morning slot, after your fitting the pro and St Ives can talk about spec, the pro can quote you, if you are happy they will make the clubs while you wait and give you a tour of the factory etc and you take the clubs home with you.

Its awesome when Im swinging well, compared to some of the stock shafts it felt so smooth and controllable, best thing is when/if Im not hitting it well than I never blame or consider the wrong club, its 100% moi!!
Unfortunately it was an expensive upgrade but hey, Tiger uses one so it must be good eh!!:whoo:

Sounds good. Is it Stiff flex you have. What is the flight like on it. Low,Low-Mid or Mid-High?
 
Phil, get yourself over to St Ives. I bought my 910 from a pro at a club, and I've put the results on the forum, so won't repeat myself. Suffice to say, the shaft he said was fine TWICE, was not when I took it to Kings Hill, who are are Titleist fitter. 5 shafts later, and I've gone from a 61gram regular to a 73gram stiff. It's not just about stiffness, it's also shaft weight, tip stiffness and flex.

The only way you'll get to know which is right is to try a load, and that's where St Ives will be perfect! Reason I didn't bother going, is because it was too far away to warrant a visit only for a retro-fit shaft.

Scott was really impressed when he went, and although his ball striking is pretty poor, he still benefited... ;) :whistle:
 
Thanks guys, I think I will be making a booking... seeing as it is the next village over from me! definetly going to buy from my pro once I get the specs... he will have a big order coming to him with a set of mp59's, 910h and a d2..... good times for me, bad times for my bank account..

This is not meant in a bad way, but I find it odd when people say this.

Do you think if Bobmac played a round with your clubs he wouldn't be able to break 80? Yes, you might not ever have as good a swing a Bob, but to say you can't improve with them is being a bit hard on yourself imo.

If you want new clubs that's great, we can all spend our money on whatever we wish, but you don't have to justify it to yourself or anyone else with statements like the above.

No offence intended. :)
