5th Division for English Football

Supporters would need to catch flights every other week to watch games.

Also can you imagine a club like Littlehampton getting fans up there for away matches?

Flights cheaper than trains and I can't see littlehampton from Sussex county premier league get promoted to the dizzy heights of league 5. Also with the support of Rangers and Celtic travelling it would help the economy of smaller English clubs. Not a fan of the proposal of B teams from the premier league getting league status

Can't see a league five side, especially from anywhere South, East or West of London having a sufficient fan base to make travelling to Glasgow a financial viability and doubt many fans would travel under their own steam. It's a poor argument to include the Glasgow clubs and any idea would have to find a clause to get them into Championship entry as a minimum to give them the chance to get promoted to the PL. I like some ideas (not a fan of watering the cup down further by having it midweek) but the Scottish one is a non-starter

Absolutely terrible idea. This could do some real financial damage to some clubs with 4 less games in the season.

If if Sky want it though it'll probably be agreed to by the money men.

Would it though? Correct me if I am wrong but I'm not sure you've had the time to do a full financial analysis to come to such a strong conclusion. I'm not saying the sums add up, but that's the whole point of a consultation phase!!

Clubs would 18 or 19 out of 19 home games played on the weekend. And the single midweek fixture per season would be a local derby, meaning more fans could attend. Attendances are on average more than 20% higher at weekends. With only 20 clubs in the league, it's likely that come April more games will have an importance to them, be it promotion or relegation. This is a time when attendances for mid table teams significantly drop, and that wont be happening anywhere near as much. Less games per season should equal fitter players, better pitches - all increasing the appeal for fans to watch and make it more attractive to TV.

Now I've no idea whether the above would make enough of a difference, but to dismiss it so quickly is a shame. If you stand still in this world you go backwards - The FL should be commended for at least looking at the future.

Yeah, why not have Rangers and Celtic in? If they finish in the top two of the SPL, then they get promoted to English League Div 5...:D

Well Rangers were recently in Scottish Div 4 so no hassle for them:lol:
They would probably jump at that deal.

It would be quite good to see a British national league for the first two divisions...better together an a that.
A British national team would at least be able to compete with other top nations.

No thanks, England and English football don't need you's.
How many Scottish players woukd get into a current Grest Britain team? None imo and we'd probably see 2-3 for political reasons and this would actually weaken a team not strengthen them allowing them to compete as you say, currently 44 Players represent their Country, you're suggesting we take that honour off them or have both?

At no point did I declare that I'd come up with with a full financial analysis. It seems like you have though? I simply formed an opinion that you clearly don't agree with.

How many clubs are attendances 20% higher at on weekends and across which leagues? Is this taking season tickets into account?

If they're making it more attractive for TV then how would it boost attendances?

The FL aren't trying to move it forward for the fans it's all about money.

No..........England teams have won diddly squat in 50 years.
A British team would be more than capable of winning tournaments.

And what do the fans want for their clubs? More money to buy better players so their team can progress and, perhaps, ultimately reach the promised land that is the Premier League. Ultimately whether additional income arises from TV or through the turnstiles is irrelevant.

Certainly this and any other proposals are worth considering because the current set-up does not appear to be working.

I agree that since 1966 England have achieved little or nothing (despite the media hype about "golden generations" etc;) but apart from Gareth Bale what non- English players would justify a place in a GB team.
