I've put my name up for a 5 club comp.

Playing off the Yellows so course length 6174 yds. 8 of the par 4's are between 360 and 424 yds with the others around the 350 mark. The par 3's are 179, 169, 127 and 147 (plays 170+). 3 par 5's between 460 and 510 yds.

At this time of year and current conditions I normally have in my bag Driver (ave 220 yds), 7 wood (ave 180 yds), 5 - SW and putter.

What would be your choice of clubs? One of them must be a putter.

Well leftie im playing in a 3 club comp in couple of weeks. im gonna pick a 4 iron pw and putter. unless i use a 2iron rescue for a putter and use it off the tee too.. in which case i swap the 4 iron for a 5 iron. its a confusing one thats for sure.

Either way wont make a difference to me as im crap lol

Thanks guys. Interesting variations in selection.

As I'm an old(er) git who doesn't hit it too far and can't use long irons, I'm toying with driver, 7 wood for 2nd shots to the longer par 4's and for the longer par 3's, 6 or 7 iron for 2nd shots to shorter par 4's and short par 3's, pitching wedge and putter.

Just an update guys and gals.

Played in a roll up this morning and decided to use only the 5 clubs - driver, 7 wood, 6 iron, p/w and putter.

Had to manufacture a couple of shots with the 6 iron for those tricky distances between that and the p/w.

Guess what. Played to within one shot of my h/cap. :) :)

Have to try that again

Okay
Am entering 3 club 'turkey Trot' in December for first time. that's 3 all together inc putter or equivalent.

Mr B recommends for me

5 wood
6/7 iron
putter

I am tempted to use my rescue as putter, giving me an extra club e.g.
3 wood
rescue
8 iron (my favourite around the greens.

Dare I sacrifice my putter?

No mats as yet but men and ladies off almost same tees right now so no 'advantage' to me in distance.
Not a long course but I only hit 150ish with 3 wood. Biggest iron is 5 - 110 on a good day (no sniggering in the back!)- rescue easily 120
Any thoughts?
