Since November I have managed to play 4 rounds of golf due to the horrendous wet weather.

In 2024/25 from November to April I played 14 rounds

Worst winter ever, but never mind first day of summer today, ha.

I was supposed to be playing today - but there's 50mph gusts forecast and with my later tee time I'd be arriving on the exposed part of the course just as the wind picked up, so I'll save my £4.50 medal entry money for another day.

I tell you what is annoying, I'll play through winter - unless the weather is horrendous but I generally try to play in as many comps as I can.... Captains drive in went live on Friday night and when I had chance to get on the booking system yesterday morning it was completely full. Loads of names that you don't see for months when the weather is garbage. I'm not knocking them, they pay their subs and they are entitled to play but it's bloody frustrating when you miss out on a good day because the tee sheet is full.
It's a Shotgun scramble as well - so the day will be a write off for getting a round unless I want to tee off at about 3pm, which on a Sunday, I'd rather not.

Twice in December, once in January, once in February and this was 16-holes because two were closed.
I've managed to get out there 3 times in March.
Hoping for about 5 or 6 in April, then it will be 8 to 10 per month from May to Sept.

60 games in a year works out about £23 per round.
I've tried telling Mrs V that the more often I play, the cheaper it is.
Her only response was that will not make it as cheap as giving up golf altogether. "You pay a fixed yearly price. The number of games is irrelevant."
Can't fault her, really.

@bradleywedge how many times did you play in the winter of 23/24? That had significant flooding, constant rain. That cost clubs up here a lot of full time members, they went nomad. For me, that winter was worse than this one

Here, January and February were write offs, courses became playable again by early March.

If you've got soil that drains it's a completely different story of course. We've had a relatively mild winter, hardly any freezing temps, snow or frost, so I suspect a lot of courses with good ground have remained very playable all winter - I actually had my biggest cut recorded on my EG record one week in February, despite my home course being like a bog.

Yeah, just looked that was bad too, 2 rounds in December, 1 in January, 1 in March.

Also the main reason I have NEVER been a member anywhere, just cant see being able to get enough rounds in during the 5 (if we're lucky) months of decent golf weather we get.

Its been a very poor winter in the West of Scotland weather wise. The main thing that has limited my golf has been an injury but without that I still would have been significantly restricted. The course has been open the majority of the time though the area has been limited with temp greens for much of the time due to very wet conditions even though our drainage is now much improved.
It's not a lot of fun playing in driving rain even when the course is open. Have still played more than four times and had an enjoyable scramble yesterday despite occasional driving hail.
Driving rain again today though

I still get more than enough benefit from my membership throughout the summer to make giving it up inconceivable.

Weather in Lancashire obviously a lot different to Watford then I guess
Probably a little bit but it's still been poor here of course. My course has only been closed on 2 or 3 weekends but I just played on a different course on a couple of those. Aside from that the weather is what it is and you can choose whether to play or not. There was one week we got about 12 holes in before we decided it was a mistake and sacked it off. But usually just play regardless.

Played Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday last week in a skort and polo. Since then it's peed down every day since Tuesday I think. There was 40 mm of rain in two days. Also been really cold and windy so wouldn't have played anyway.

I’ve played all through the winter, course was shut on a few days that you wouldn’t have wanted to play in anyway. Course has had a few temp greens every now and again.
Today however was the coldest I’ve played in all winter. A bitter wind and I had to dig out a mitt for the first time this winter. Unfortunately I had to ref a final afterwards and the rain came in for the last few holes - deep joy.
