3 minute search rule

Exactly correct and when you say I think that is about 3 mins it’s probably slightly more as who would say it on the dot of 3 mins or before. Everyone just uses their loaf. I’m not talking 10 mins. I’m talking apparently 3mins 10 sec. when he knew I’d started I don’t know but I was apparently 10 sec over. To make matters worse I went on to birdie this hole but had to take a blob. Very annoying.

It’s 3 mins chap not 3 mins 10 secs......

Bit si

Look at what you lot actually call yourselves. Wannabes. In Essex we are a bit more honest obviously.

From what I recall, none of the scratch boys I’ve played with think that much of themselves, because in golf terms it’s nothing. You’ll never get anywhere in the game at your level. Plus 3,4 that’s the minimum level to start thinking you’re something!

Stupid question but why is singles strokeplay not 100%?
Other systems had a built in function of the 'Average of the best x from the last 20' calculation. Where x was either 8 or 10 depending on system.
In addition there was a 'Bonus for Excellence' adjustment applied. Again, this varied from 0.93 or 0.96.
They have done a lot of new number crunching and decided to standardise on 0.95, move it from a fixed value in the handicap index calculation and mace it a 'recommendation' for national unions to choose or not.

So the .95 (differences should only apply to 11 and overs?) applies for the competition and handicap purposes, or just the competition?

I agree on what is said about no one times searches. Couple weeks back I played with a +2 -layer and we were talking about search time on the first tea, 4 holes later he must have spent 5 possibly 7 minutes looking for his ball before he gave it up.

Possibly the most abused rule in golf or not cause no one times it, or not anyone I've played with.

I agree that most people don't time themselves. But they should. Because if one happens to get timed by someone else and pulled for going over the limit, then one is likely to go all sniffy & mardy and start throwing toys out of ones pram.

Whether it's 3 mins or 5 is irrelevant. A limit is a limit and if you go over you'll get pulled. And rightly so. So live with it.

As I recall, there was a player on the PGATour whose ball was not found until 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Guess what? As the Rules require, the ball was lost and stroke and distance was correctly applied.

I’m always amazed people with low handicaps (which is different to a good golfer) get to the level they are with such clear misunderstandings of the Rules.....
So I’m not a good golfer, and I don’t understand the rules. What I will say is I’ve been educated and have texted the gentleman concerned told him no hard feelings from my perspective. I suppose after years of playing golf and witnessing all manner of cheating and people taking longer than 3 minutes to find a ball I got a bit lax on that ruling. In the summer I think 3 mins ok but in the winter with leaves everywhere it’s twice as hard to find the ball. But I didn’t really get anyone agree. Finally I’d like to apologise for any insults I threw about, I was still in a state of annoyance from the days golf. No excuse.
