3-Man Scramble in "HowDidIDo"

This morning we had an official senior's 3-Man texas scramble competition. Team handicap was calculated as 10% of the total of the 3 players Handicaps INDEXES! I've argued in the past that Handicap Index must always be converted to a Course Handicap before allowances are applied but it's hard work. Does anyone know if "HowDidIDo" accepts a 3-Man Scramble as a competition and works out the team handicap correctly using the WHS recommended 30%20%10% ?

In GB&I, the WHS allowances for scrambles are mandatory. It's been 5½ years - (assuming you are in GB&I) whoever is running competitions at your club should know this by now.

HowDidiDo is just the front-end app and website for golfers; the back-end software for administering competitions is called ClubV1, and it handles 3-player scrambles just fine using the correct allowances.

It's extremely straightforward They're mandatory and clubs must use them. There is no wiggle room.

Clubs doing anything else are inviting problems.

And your scramble almost certainly didn't work fine for multiple teams that were likely unfairly disadvantaged. Collective ignorance of that disadvantage doesn't make it ok.

That’s the line we might be looked at due to how poor the allowances they have created are

What rules are there to stop us having a HC limit ?

The “mandatory allowances” have turned the scrambles into a joke and we now see them half full - teams getting over 10 shots is ridiculous, teams having to go 20 under par gross to stand a chance is ridiculous

There’s no mandatory requirement for the Club to have a Scramble, just bin them and replace them with another comp.

Not in the present format apparently, you said they are only half filled.

So until the rules are changed either accept they’ll only be half full or bin them off.

Or we look at ways to keep them going and get more people playing

Can I just check? I see people on other threads saying we should respect the rules, dress code, but then saying they ignore them when those rules don't suit. Very confusing.

Are we following all rules or just some rules?

It is no ones business outside the club how a fun competition like a scramble is organised.

With the new allowances any team with low HC players struggle due to them making up the biggest allowance - our team in the last scramble had a total of two shots , the winning team had 17 shots - it’s too much in scrambles where you get 4 chances per shot , they were 7 under par gross

What is not OK about everyone enjoying themselves in a fun competition that has no bearing on anyone outside of those playing?
Had we called it a Weegie scramble would it then have been OK? At what point can a private club not organise a fun competition?

There are a lot of fun competitions played in UK golf clubs that are not played by the RoG. In some you may have a different maximum number of clubs in others you may play from tees other than that of the hole. Scrambles have many formats including how many drives people may or may not have whether everyone has to have a tee shot on a par 3 etc. No handicap promulgated from on high will precisely capture those variations. It is not that there are no rules it is that the rules are devised by those actually involved in the game.
It has to be a particularly pompous self important stuffed shirt that wishes to regulate that variety.

Or play on a team with more varied handicaps of high and low. That will give you more shots and you might meet some different people
