The 10 second penalty was a joke. There is absolutely no reason for it and there is no consistency in the application of penalties.
The stewards took into account the conditions. If it was dry, then I would agree unfair. Visibility was very poor thus it wasn't deemed safe, also considering the force that Piastri applied the brakes (twice what Russell did).

The general consensus is that it was a fair penalty and deserved, hard to disagree with that.

Two great motor racing achievements this past weekend. Niko Hulkenberg finally gets on to the podium for the first time in his career. And in the States, Scott Dixon won an Indycar race for the 21st consecutive season when he triumphed at Mid-Ohio.

Christian Horner sacked by Red Bull - what makes you think this story is only just beginning .....

Personally I think you have answered your own question.
The conditions were shocking. So the simple question is why would Verstappen be right behind Piastri. If you go into the back of someone on a road it’s your fault. Not the person in front of you.

Verstappen had no reason whatsoever to be right behind Piastri. Furthermore Verstappen knew there had been problems before re safety car and he played on it. He knew Piastri and others including himself gets the brakes up to temp.
There’s a bit of a clue in the “ safety car”. It’s there for a reason. The guy in pole position picks the pace and where he puts his car. It seems Verstappen ( no one else ) has a problem with it.
It is the second time it has happened to Verstappen. Why?
The first time he was found to be in the wrong so why put yourself in the same position in worse conditions.
He has always been very good at playing a victim.

Horner and the Verstappens are hardly the best of friends.
Perhaps getting rid of Horner is the first (probably futile) attempt by Red Bull to retain Max.
A quote from a BBC F1 reporter "Is this to protect Max from leaving Red Bull or is this because he's left Red Bull already and this is the result of that?"

You couldn't be more wrong, braking that sharply in what are dangerous conditions, poor visibility and no expectation is very dangerous. these guys race so closely as tehy know how they are going to behave in most scenarios. He got exactly what he deserved an dit will m ake him and any other driver thinking of doing something similar second thoughts. Additinally there has been more 10 sec penalties given this season as I feel they realise 5 seconds is not enough for thr fastest cars

Wrong wonrg wrong, they are all with a limited distance, it's how it works, they cannot have cars spreadout around the circuit. It seems your opinion is totally formed on your dislike of Verstappen and not the actual situation in hand. They all drive in a long snake until the lights go off and the safety car goes in and the lead car within reason tries to dictate the pace to favour himself and pulls away. As Hulkenburg said quite clearly in the cooldown room any heavy breaking causes massive issues further down the pack causes concertina issues and is a risk to other drivers.

Mine wasn't a question, it was a statement.

As much as I'm not a fan of Max, this wasn't his fault. Piastri braked too quickly and hard for the conditions.

Seems more a post to point fingers at Verstappen

It wasn’t him that slammed on the brakes

I am going to suspect that if Verstappen slammed on the brakes and Piastri went past your finger of blame would point to Verstappen

When the safety car goes round the cars are very regularly bunched up

Thoughts on the direction F1 is headed under its current Saudi leadership appreciated. 👍
I have stepped away from F1, the Pirelli tyres were generally rubbish, the tyre engineering was or has moved to an area I don’t like. By this we get a bunch of kids looking at hypothetical graphs but actually not understanding them. It’s common up the pit lane or it was and you could see it in the QF and strategies .. plus Lewis passing comments on tyre quality it all got farcical. Then the engine regulations being frozen, Mercedes were brilliant with their supercharger placement but that advantage was allowed for too long ( I know Renault were doing updates ..) but I come from the era when a QF engine was a live grenade and it was go fast give everything and survive those 12 laps.. the noise a v10 makes at 23000 rpm is mind blowing.
I do remember a test where the Renault had 5/6 engine installs and only one got on track for the installation before blowing up .. the mechanics were totally broken .. but 2 tyre engineers were laughing their “tits” off.
I thought this year might shake it up with the dimension changes, and then the moving of Newey to Aston Martin. Depending on budget you might see some interesting stuff towards the end of the season from Aston Martin.. but next year they will be contenders is my guess.
If you want to look at interesting stuff then Giorgio Piola used to do F1 books and F1 technical website had his insights released post race regards aero and mechanical updates ..
But I really am not that bothered now too old to wonder around a pit lane and not diplomatic enough to massage wealthy egos ..
If you want some interesting races to review .. Imola 2005 with Alonso defending Schumacher is a good one .. then same year magny cours was hilarious when you see the Minardi crashes at turn 1 when you know the back story.
Then GP2 .. I dealt with Coletti at trident and he was a gambler .. his dad said he was special because he was conceived on Keke’s boat (💩 like this is hilarious)
