Thing about that is the mathematics have to be extremely right, Piastri is only 16 points behind Lando and as history tells us anything can happen on the last lap so he is very likely to never do it in then first place.

He will 100% move over and let Lando past if Lando can beat Max and Oscar can't, absolutely guaranteed...

On that subject.... Did you see Massa has been granted permission to appeal the outcome of that season and is seeking £64m in damages?
I’m torn on this one. I’d be very surprised if the season’s results get overturned. And maybe he needs to for after Ferrari for leaving a fuel hose attached to his car.

But then if he did win his case and was awarded the title it could open a very large can of worms. Off the top of my head. Hill for 94 and Lewis could counter for what happened in Belgium in 2008. He’d have a case for Hungary 07 and of course one of the biggest scandals in the history of sport in 21.

Question: why did they have 25 limit lap on tyres in the last race?

I didn't know at the time the race started. So when the safety car came out, I assumed staying out was a reasonable decision, as it was early in race. Just stay out, then pit later in race, hard tyres to end.

But, I didnt realise that if they didnt pit then, they'd have to pit twice before end of race anyway, because a one stopper would mean they'd have to ignore 25 lap limit. So they effectively let everyone else have a cheap pit stop under SC, whilst they would likely need to pit under race conditions twice

Only part of his claim for some damages was allowed to proceed, the rest was thrown out. There is NO question of that season's results being over turned or him retrospectively awarded anything in sporting terms.

The 25 lap limit was imposed because Pirelli believed that there was a danger of tyre failures. Qatar is notoriously hard on tyres.

As for the strategy failure by McLaren:
It should be shatteringly obvious that on a circuit where it is almost impossible to overtake and where you must make two pit stops, that if a safety car happens any time after lap 7 (ie. the earliest point where you can take a pit stop and only require one more), then you MUST pit, in order to save several seconds of overall race time. Anyone who fails to do so puts themselves at a disadvantage, so surely all teams would have pre-planned to do just that.
McLaren's argument that they thought other teams might not pit doesn't change anything. Any team that fails to pit under the safety car is giving away those precious seconds.

Good Day 1 for Lando yesterday, massive quali coming up this afternoon.

Sure I heard them say the last 10 Abu Dhabi races have been won from pole, let's see if Lando can put himself at the front to start the race.

Got all the factors set up for an interesting race. Sad to see Lewis in his interview only able to acknowledge his poor performance with a slow nod of the head. ( poor in terms of his past high standards).

Merci 👍 so sensible drive staying out of trouble is the order of the day

All depends on turn 1. If Max keeps the lead he will drive as slowly as possible so the pack doesn’t spread out giving a bit more jeopardy at pit stops, or if there’s a safety car etc. can also overtake at this track too, though unless anything stupid happens Russell is the only real threat over a race I would say.
