Been thinking of adding a 2 iron to my bag for a few weeks now, with the season nearly over think i will give one a go over the winter when the course is playin shorter and my driver not needed.Does many of you guys carry one??do u use it much??

Only other thing you cant get one in a i15 any ideas?

From what I understand about golf on most courses, winter time is for long carry clubs like hybrids.

I used to have a 2 iron driving iron (mizuno fli-hi 18deg) instead of fairway woods when I was younger, I tended only to play in the summer or on holiday in Spain where the long run it had helped my game.

When I changed my irons I wanted a 2 iron as well but could not get one, I did get a 17* hybrid which is probably more use to me, can hit a variety of shots but with the 2 iron I had borrowed I found hitting it of the deck was quite difficult. Try one first if you can or think of a hybrid.

I have the Mizuno MP FliHi 2 and 4 irons.
The 4 iron i use often but the 2 iron is hardly used although it is the easiest long iron i've ever had to hit. I usually only hit the 2 iron from the tee rather than the fairway, i would prefer to still have my old 18.5 degree Nickent 3DX in the bag.
In my opinion if you're a strong hitter then go for the 2 iron, if not then go for the strong lofted hybrid.

I'd go for a hybrid with around 17-18 degrees of loft. Recently got myself an 18 degree cleveland launcher (last years one, not the DST) and use it quite a lot. A 2 iron is only of use from the tee unless you can really clobber it, the hybrid is so much more versatile and if your swing is good enough to hit a 2 iron reliably then you can probably manufacture a low stinger-type shot with the hybrid anyway.

have recently left the 2iron out for a hybrid, im a late convert and may go back to the iron next summer but would need to be a very windy course in winter to make me want to carry a 2iron again

I've had a Mizzy MP Fli-Hi 2 iron for 4-5 years now and it's the favourite club in the bag.

In the winter, against the wind particularly, it's far more useful and versatile than my Titleist 5 wood. It looks so comfortable at address it just inspires confidence. Added bonus. If you do hit a bad one (mine would be a low cut) then it'll usually only squirt into the rough rather than fly miles out of site into it. Usually it's a joy to play with though.

The best shot I ever hit was with my 5 wood. The next 20 would be with that 2 iron. Highly recommended.

I Have a Mizuno Hi Fli 2 iron ( not sure why its called that cos fly high it don’t) and have used it with some success until this year. I got a 17 deg clk cheap to try and have stuck with that. But when you are playing links golf of hard dry surfaces and strong winds I would probably go back to it the 2 iron.

None of the really low 0 - 5 guys that play at my place (links) use 2 irons (that I know of). Most of them have a hybrid or a steelhead 5 wood!

Hi,

I have a nice Ping 2 iron that I used to carry but now don't. The main reason is that I can hit my 3 iron really well and it is that little bit more forgiving plus has the same shafts as my other irons so retains consistency through the set. I don't personally find the extra 10-15 yards with the 2 iron is worth the increase in shot difficulty.

Snelly.

I'd get an equivalent lofted hyrid. It's got to have more versatility. We've got the BB&O captain at our place and he plays off +1 and would never dream of taking a 2 iron out. Personally I think you're limiting the options with one compared to a hybrid but we all see the game differently

Homer - I find it very difficult to hit a hybrid with anything except a (too) high trajectory... must be my swing.

My mate Matt has a bladed 2 iron as his 'go to' club when all else is going pear shaped. He does hit it really well though. Not sure how, the head is tiny. Plays off 4.
