1st Round of golf for the year tomorrow. The long haired general has given the all clear. Not expecting any miracles golf wise, however I am expecting sore feet!

1st time out in my new golf shoes I was given for Xmas.

So hopefully I will post a reasonable score under 100 and not to many blisters!

I will let you know tomorrow how I get on.

Have you not given them a trial run first Matt?

When I bought my last pair I removed the spikes and walked round the house in them for a while to see what they were like. Not exactly field conditions but it got my feet used to them.
Mrs Bash wasn't too charmed though!

Yeah I did trial them to some extent, walked around the garden a bit, felt alright. But after 18 holes it might be a different story, especially if that is zig zag golf.

My advice would be to tape up the heels with plaster (I use elastoplat strips and cut them into 3rds and overlap them down the middle of my heel) and maybe a plaster on the big and little toes (my prone areas) before you go out to give some protection

I have a new pair of Nikes yet to be worn also, so would be very interested to know how they score in the pain deptartment, and what areas I need to protect.

If you like Matt think of yourself as my personal tester.

Hope the round goes well and sleep deprivation dos'nt hamper the score after the little one.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I played Waterstock this morning started about 0720hrs. Phoned the course the day to book a tee time. They don't officially open until 0800hrs but they said we could get on the course from 0700hrs when the greenkeeping staff get in and pay up later.

Steady start Par'd the 1st, 3rd and 4th. Then it started going down hill after that.

Play percentage golf, keep it simple. That's what I told myself before hand. That all disappeared on the 5, developed a shank out of no where. Must of shanked at least 10 simple pitch shots throughout the round.

Total score of 107, two 9's and one 8 on the score card.
3 GIR's
8 Fairways Hit
31 Putts (drained 2 long puts on the 4th and 14th)

Little disappointed, but now have a starting point to improve upon for the year.

But the good thing from the round was, no blisters. The new shoes, Nike Fast Saddle 111 were like a pair of trainers.

Imurg how much notice do you need for a round? I do shift work, so i'm pretty flexi.

Matt.

Problem I have is my free time in the week comes up at any time but with not much notice. Could clear some time for a game soon but HID is laid up with a dodgy shoulder so need to be around at the mo.
Give it a few weeks and we'll get down to Waterstock.
