and probably my worst round of the year, 113, with the adjustments it would be 105 which works out at a handicap of 33. twice i took 5 to get down from the fringe of the green, both times managing to take a putt that went back off the green. I actually didnt play bady for 90% of the time, plenty of room form improvement in my other 3 cards, for some reason they want 4 instead of 3 cards. 2nd card being dome tomorrow.

At least you can see where you could have saved a heap of shots so better luck with the next few cards.

Either way the handicap system should give you a "mark in the sand" as to where your game is at right now and then the fun begins in getting it down

a poor putt is better than a duffed/thinned chip! I have stuck by that mantra for the last few rounds and it definitely is true :)

You have a benchmark now so really the pressure is off, good luck ;)

Don't worry about it Louise all part of the learning curve and the wonderful game of golf. It's amazing the damage that having a card in your hand can do to your short game ;) happened to me on more than one occasion!!!

Social v competitive. Two different beasts. Put my first card in at the weekend. If the next cards are about the same, it will give a H/c of 18/20. In social rounds I have been shotting to 10/12. Did explain this to comp sec when I put card in. He said, "don't worry about it.Just change your name to Pedro."

Sounds like the old grey matter got in the way too. Probably trying too hard with the first card being marked. Relax and do what you do in a social game and let someone else take care of the score. On the plus side (Homers glass half full) it can only get better and that a bit of course management with the short game will see you right

I wouldn't worry about it. My first card this year was 97, horrendous round of golf, one of the worst ever, 2nd was 90 and final card was 84, which is about right. I ended up getting my first ever handicap of 15, lower than expected, but not arsed. It's only a number.

Quick question for you, does your club go for average of 3 cards or best card? I was told average for the 3 before I began, then afterwards they said it was best card, not sure what is the norm?
