    RIP MashieNiblick (Mike Stillman, 10.6.1961 - 10.1.2017)

Dear friends Thank you very much for all your kind words. And a big thank you for those lovely photos of Mike in happier times. I've taken copies. If anyone wishes to make a contribution in his memory, please feel free to make a donation to Sue Ryder. Their Nettlebed hospice did an...

    RIP MashieNiblick (Mike Stillman, 10.6.1961 - 10.1.2017)

Dear golfing friends I couldn't bring myself to come back to this thread, as it's all so painful still. But today I managed it! And I want to thank you all so much for your kind words. Of course I am having a tear (or two) but well worth it to read the posts you have left. I will be...

    RIP MashieNiblick (Mike Stillman, 10.6.1961 - 10.1.2017)

I am writing to let you know that very sadly, my husband Mike died of cancer on 10 January. He was only 55. He was wonderfully cared for in a Sue Ryder hospice at the end of his illness. He was known here as MashieNiblick. Mike loved the game of golf, the history and spirit of the game, and...

    Van Der Velde's putter

How appropriate. That summed up his approach that day. Maybe a pity though that there wasn't a "Safety First" brand.

Loose impediment too big to move

Thank you all for responses. Very helpful. Rulie, thanks for post #15 which is helpful in clarifying how equity applies in different scenarios. I am seeing the chap tomorrow and will show them to him.

Loose impediment too big to move

A friend has just asked me what the ruling would be in following situation A player drives his ball onto the fairway. Whilst walking to the ball a tree or very large branch falls onto the fairway where his ball is such that it is now impossible for the player to play his ball. The fallen...

    Groove Shape

Don't know specifically what the groove shape is but they are conforming if that helps. http://www.randa.org/RulesEquipment/Equipment/Equipment-Explorer/Results?type=club&id=2010-0632A

Do you need a rescue club?

I carry a 7 wood for exactly this type of situation. Also gives a great high flight if trying to get to a well protected green from about 170-180 yards.

    Pitching wedge lofts

I agree with the view not to worry too much about lofts per se but what the actual results are. If the actual gap in distance between a full PW and GW is too much and you don't feel happy manufacturing shots with your PW to fill that gap then a change of some sort may benefit you. If the gap...

    taking relief

Always like to think these are the breaks that balance out those situations when you get penalised even though, as they say, "you gained no advantage", or you hit a perfect drive and then have to play from a divot.!:)

Picking my pro?!? How many pro's have you used and what do you value in one?

Only one in last 30 years. What I value Explains things in a way I can understand and apply Is patient Gives consistent advice Gets results

Is it all about the ball?

I think it's more than feel. it is about the actual speed of the ball off putter face for any given shot. Be interesting to know if there have been any objective (i.e. robot) testing of this. A bit like green speed, there seems to be a speed that suits my stroke so that with my natural/normal...

What era produced the best players?

Of course it's impossible to say. Each era has produced great players with skills required at the time. I think there are more better payers now but in terms of skill I think there would be nothing to choose between best 2 or 3 from each era. To match the original triumvirate how about these...

    RIP Arnold Palmer

Sad loss but a long life lived to the full with a lasting legacy. Played the game in a way that enthralled and engaged the public. His respect for and desire to win the Open gave it a new impetus when few Americans bothered coming over to play in it.
