IMHO when on the range it dosent matter if i hit a duff shot, on the course it does, its being able to transfer that relaxed feel from the range to the course with the right balance

I agree they should cough up the dosh, up to them they walked off the game had started. We do a simalar thing but every one puts in 2 golf balls, as some dont like playing for cash it suits all, and ball in the bag before the 1st ball is hit and no refunds
