I thought this might be interesting.

What would your perfect practice facilities consist of and how much would you be willing to pay to use them?

Mine would be as follows:

Driving range- Floodlit, 20 bays, mixture of grass and mats hitting area, 300 yards in length, good quality balls, accurately measured distances, targets etc.

Short game- large putting green that reflects the pace and condition of the course, variety of holes, designated chipping area, 100 yard shot with a responsive green, large bunker, mixture of rough and fairway.

I'd also love to have the use of a Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 to use as a warm up before a round.

If I could have all that I'd happily pay £20-30 a session.

What about you, what would you want and how much would you pay?

needs to be really close and to have re-cycling facilities (to give me a ready made reason to visit frequently) - everything else is a plus!

in fairness I have excellent facitities at the club, but that 6 miles away and doesn't have the facilities to recycle anything except beer and golf balls

Covered range, short game area, decent quality putting green and Clare Grogan from Altered Images making herself available every time I hit a good shot. Or not.

I played at Westerham (Kent) with Scottjd and Bratty on Tuesday and their prctice facilities were spot on for me. A range for anything up to a driver, a short game area with pins and bunkers etc - can see why Scott is a single figure range player!!

I think we are quite lucky at my club. We have a cover range with fairly new balls and mats. Distance over 250 yard. Also has nets to chip into etc. We have a large undulating putting green with plenty of holes, which you can also chip onto.
There is a really good par 3 9 hole course also that I sometime use to have a warm up.

Tight and tricky par 3 course of holes ranging from 40-150 yards with lots of interesting features.

Also a good large putting green with a few tiers and some flat areas and chipping allowed. Additionally a small flat green for approach shots up to 130 yards + bunker shots from greenside to 90 yards.

Finally a quality driving range with plenty of easy to see targets and landing areas. Trackman etc would be a bonus

Dont forget the attached cafe serving breakfast and snack foods all day :)

grass or very realistic mats
trackman
covered bays with constant video cameras and large screen to view them on immediately after each shot
decent balls
interesting targets ie proper greens with flags and holes
accurate distances from EACH bay (simple stuff)
rent by the 30mins or by the hour as opposed to ball numbers
seperate short game area
happily pay £25 an hour for that

+1 for that, a rethink of the traditional driving range format in this country is REQUIRED

Brocket halls practise facilities are as good as I have seen, I believe you can become a member of the practise ground only for about £800.00 a year.

I would like:
proper balls (pro V's etc)
to hit from proper grass and tees.
mirrors to see setup (front and back)
accurate yardages marked out.

Another thing I would like is to have targets which have cameras aimed at each one. That way you could choose your target and the camera you wished to see and then get a better idea of where your balls are landing. Sometimes at ranges I don't see exactly where the ball lands and as a result can't tell properly how things are going. ie, when going for the 200 yard green.

I'd love a designated short game area about 80-100 yards long with a green that is maintained to the level of those on the course and a couple of greenside bunkers. Again these need to be maintained regularly. The lcub simply doesn't have the money to invest in such luxury although why it couldn't have been included in the plans for the new course I don't know. Nowhere locall with the exception of Heobridge and Wexham have anything resembling what I'm looking for.

Heaters.

Decent real balls.

Mirrors behind each bay

Stand to hold phones/cameras positioned behing the ball to target line

Lots of targets

Grass bays as an option

Slightly elevated bays to allow a good view of the landing area.

These I think are realistic expectations...

prizes if you hit the targets

a megafone system brodcasting when somebody has shanked a shot and their bay number.

i'd like good quality balls, lots of different targets, high quality mats with that artificial grass etc,
and a couple of bays with a trackman where you paid a premium
