You know what really ruins a round?

Walking down the 15th and listening to a voicemail from HID which said "you know that 4 litre can of Castrol that was behind the drivers seat? Well....it's gone everywhere and I can't clean it up because I'm late for Netball. See you later!"

I was playing nice, steady, par/bogey golf up to this point....After I'd listened to that (having already put my original tee shot in the water and was playing 3), I hit two fat shots (first two I hit all day), and came away with my 1st double bogey of the day (par 5) as I couldn't think of anything except the horrendous mess that was waiting for me when I got home.

Followed that with a topped tee shot at the 16th, a second shot hooked OOB (struck it lovely though!) and a 2 putt for triple bogey!

Managed to salvage a Bogey on the 17th and a Par on the mammoth par 5 last, but 12 over through 13 with nothing but pars and bogeys on the card then finishing 24 over through 18 really grinds my gears.

It does feel like my game is coming together though and although my short game/putting wasn't as consistent as last weekend, it's still alot better than it was.

Oh and before anyone says "why were you on the phone on the course"...It's not a regular occurance but I had my phone out for the GPS yardage and saw a missed call from HID. She knows not to call me when I'm golfing, so thought I should probably listen. Won't bother next time

I'll have the phone in the bag on the course but it stays there until I finish. HID can wait, Clients can wait, Those trying to sell me something I don't need can definitely wait. I'm not going to call any of them back while I'm playing so why check it?
Another reason for having a stand-alone GPS system if you ask me.

Most of it has saturated the mat in the back which I removed with care and chucked straight in the big wheelie bin. The rest of the pool in the footwell was soaked up with a towel. But I have to spend this morning scrubbing what's left to break down the oil in the carpet so it can be removed and the carpet can dry.

Nightmare.

I went to pot on the 9th yesterday, had a phone call from the wife. She was at the shop and saw some golf trouser for me, wanted to know what colour, still went down hill from that moment though, lol.

Have to have the phone on me at the moment though as she is due in about 2 weeks.

So if a member of the family was involved in an accident or similar, parring in is more important?
I tend to check mine at least once , usuay around the turn as it is close to the carpark should a real emergency occur. Nothing has happened yet, but really wouldn't want to be 3 hours late if something did happen..

One of the rules of our club is no phones switched on during play, and its lovely to be totally absorbed in golf with no distractions.
Thats no good to you though, my advice, is to take your car to the dealer and let them valet it for you, alot of car manufacturers are hiding ecu's under carpets and seats so who better to valet your car safely than the dealer, (we currently do a mini valet or £14.95, so hardly expensive), the chemicals and equipment our valeters use are quite amazing and can remove almost any mess, I wouldn't bother trying to do it yourself.

dont use water in any instance. A product I find fantastic for oil removal is called "lava rock" they are industrial wipes. Always worth keeping them in your car for wheel changes, checking oil were you might get a drop on your clothes.
I would agree 100% with Mark_G take it to a good local valet shop.
Ban hid from netball and let her clean up her own mess.

Guy i know was playing in our open last year. VERY good golfer. Checked his phone on the 4th tee. Text message from his wife telling him his wee girl had broken her arm. Ended up with a 76...

What really ruined my medal round today was trying to punch a shot off a path, hitting a tree about two yards in front of me and the ball flying back and smashing me in the jaw!!!

Happened on 7th, and my score wasn't great, but wasn't shabby either. Stinking headache and mind wandering to "how bad it could have been" scenarios meant I shot 100!!!

I think that's the rule at the majority of clubs. Although, I remember getting a bollocking as a visitor at one club as they had a strict no phone policy. A guy in the group in front started having serious breathing difficulties and I called the clubhouse to alert them and they called an ambulance. I then got a bollocking from the secretary for making a call on the course!

It's that kind of thing that gives golf clubs a bad name.

Anyway, I hardly ever see anyone at our place on the phone - especially during competition. I don't even think it's the rule that stops people, it's more that they enjoy their golf and want to leave the world behind for a few hours.

What ruined my round today was turning up on time, ordering a sandwich, and then having the guys going come on, we're going off 15 minutes early. Sandwich arrived late, was hassled to get to the tee, arrived still eating the sanwich to be told I'd won the toss and was off first. Never got into any rhythm, was in a foul mood, and shattered my 8i on 17. It's Sunday, what was the flippin hurry. Still seething now. Total waste of a day.

Bad luck with the oil though. Best to getitcleaned professionally or you will smell it forever.

I tend to leave my phone in the locker. My carry bag isn't waterproof and so if there is any sign of rain I'd rather miss a text etc than the phone getting soaked and potentially not working properly. HID knows that if there is a real emergency that the club would get a buggy out to me on the course anyway (as they would for any member) and to ring the pro shop if anything were to happen

In fairness to her, she told me to take the oil can out around 3 months ago.

Spent nearly 4 hours today with industrial blue kitchen roll (nearly 4 rolls), deepio and a scrubbing brush.

Took up the carpet and got most of it out. Going to inspect it in the next few days once it's had time to dry. Much better than it was anyway!

Will get some lava rock though, cheers!
