Yoga to help with golf?

I've struggled with lower back pain for a few years, the remnants of an old cricket injury. Anyway, having endless osteopath appointments that wasn't really solving the problem (and expensive) my wife finally had enough of my moaning and booked me into a pilates course that she'd been doing for years. I rocked up thinking that doing the odd stretch with a load of geriatric women was going to be a complete waste of my evening. After an hour of almost not stop stretching, holding, pulling and pushing I came out completely knackered and felt muscles that I never knew existed. I've been doing this for 6 months now and whilst I still have the odd back flare up the stiffness I've experienced has all but gone and my core strength has improved massively.

I would recommend to anyone (even those without pain) who plays golf to give a taster course a go!

Have you tried legs straight up the wall and arse as close to the skirting as you can get it.
This is the best exercise I have tried for lower back pain.

My god, what are you trying to do to me.
I was nowhere near the skirting board and the pain all along the back off my legs was insane  point my toes and it transfers to the front of my legs.
Wow, I feel like I've been on a rack, I hope I can walk to the hotel bar later

Sounds like you've got a disc problem.
Google mckenzie back extensions.

Well I quite enjoyed the yoga tonight. Not nearly as boring as pilates. Really showed me just how bad my flexibility is but I could see that regular yoga could make a difference. I'm signed up for a four week introduction block so will be interesting to see how it goes.

How many times a week will that be?

Cheers, just wondered if induction block meant a few, serious question, how often do they want you to practise at home?

It wasn't that serious Paul so no homework. I know what you mean, though, once a week isn't going to produce any quick results. First four weeks is easy introductory stuff so I might try and do some once I've had a couple of goes at the classes.

That proves you have very poor flexability. If you do this regularly it will get easier but it's not going to work in one go , it's the best thing for a bad back , non weight bearing it will take about two weeks to start working properly.
no pain no gain !
