Yet Another New Olympic Sport

I'd be tempted to exclude all team sports. It's possible for a team of below average players to progress because they have a few top players. Why should the weak prosper? And then there's the matches where one team is clearly better but the weaker team sneaks it, parks the bus...

I'd like to see tiddlywinks in the olympics,I once went to the world finals.
It was so inspiring watching the skill & dedication from the players.

True story 😉

I never understood why 'tug 'o war' stopped being an Olympic sport.
Great sport to watch.

Climbers are astonishingly fit and strong, take the safety lines off and it would be a very popular spectator sport.:o

What about sky diving as per the bloke the other day. Competitors jump out of the plane and we see who hits the net, hopefully, first. Obviously marks are deducted for missing the net and pancaking themselves. You get marks for time taken to hit the net and also accuracy, the net could be marked like an archery target.

Ahhhh good ole Tug o war i pulled for the world champions back in the day .
640 weight ,i pulled number five.

Are you talking about knights on horses or gladiators with giant Q tips?

I think the Olympics need updating otherwise we would still be watching teams pulling on a rope and painting.
However, the controversy is always what to can and what to include.

I would only include sports where the Olympics are the pinnacle of it. If you could only ever win one event it would be it, not Wimbledon, not the Open, not the Tour de France or the Champions League. Gold is what it is all about.

Rock climbing would probably fulfil that. And I only watched it a couple of times on TV many tears ago, it is spectacular to watch.

Knights on horses ........................... what a spectacle!
The International Jousting League includes over 351 affiliates representing 21 nations!

Who actually cares?

If you dont like the 'sport'. Turn over to one of the others on a different channel. athletics, skateboarding, football, tennis whatever. let the games begin and crown a winner. the more the merrier.

There are plenty of sports I dont care for, but I won't hold it against someone else if they do.

Very true.... We have a climbing wall at school and it is extremely popular, as are the local climbing centres. My daughter who is quite 'anti sport' likes it a lot.

Ironically, changing tact a little bit, if you study GCSE Physical Education, this year 60% is practically assessed over 4 sports. You have over 100 you can choose from, but it must be a mixture of team and individual sports. 40% is a theory exam covering anatomy, physiology, sociology and training.
If you start the GCSE course this year, only 40% is practical, across 3 sports and the 100 you can choose from has been reduced to about 30. My point is (sorry for the log winded post) a lot of the new Olympic sports and some existing ones have been removed. It went to consultation and yet again the government didn't listen. Well done ofqual and the DfE.
Sorry for the rant ;)

Darts and drinking combined. See who can score 180 after downing the most pints.

Reckon GB could do quite well in that one

Yeah that doesn't always work

On Tuesday evening I caught my first viewing of a TV quiz called 'Pointless' on the Beeb... biggest load of dog mess I've ever seen!... but for the life of me I couldn't turn over, it was tragic

You caught Pointless Celebrity version. That is a car crash as it goes to prove that most celebs are as thick as thick can be. Staggeringly stupid. Take a script or song sheet away from these people and they are clueless. The regular show has normal people in it and is harmless tea time viewing, hugely popular as well. Incidentally, quick tip. If in doubt go for the Central African Republic.

These were definitely 'real' people but seriously worry that some of these folks are allowed to operate a tv remote let alone drive cars etc
(doubt I'd be on the same schedule as UK anyway, watched it on BBC Brit channel)

Sorry for straying Off Topic

id rather watch ceefax than some of the sports they have in the olympics, but it's each to their own and the games have to move with the times. I reckon speed climbing might be pretty decent to watch.
Is Rio adopting the same ticket shambles they had in London?

At the opening football match they were operating a no crowd policy. 900 people in a 60k stadium.

I'm sure when everything gets started for real it will go well and crowds will fill the stadiums. It is par for the course for the media to highlight problems until the key sports start. Then the events take over.

Staying off topic. If you really want to be afraid then try to catch a celeb version. I promise you it will make the "normal" people seem like Einstein. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at their total lack of basic general knowledge. They even dumb down the questions and still struggle.

I'm interested in seeing people compete against their peers.

I can't stand the stuff in the 'Olympics' which depends entirely on how fat the wallet is.

Dressage, in fact anything with a horse is just based on how much you spend on the best animal. I grew up with horses and riders and horsey based competitions: the winners were, almost without fail, the richest. They bought the best and had the time to play.

I know there will never be a level playing field and cash will bring advantages and I have no problems with that in the professional sports world but for me the Olympics should be about something else.

I think we should have an Olympics where drug taking is absolutely legal. Let's see just how fast someone can run 100 metres or how much they can lift. OK so they'd probably not be around four years later to defend their titles but it would be awesome viewing.
