So I finished my night shift yesterday & went straight out with the lads from work for a round.
I had a rubbish start taking 5 shots to reach the rough around the 1st green (par 4) but made up for it with a fantastic 40 yard chip & run straight into the hole, ok I thought now that's out of the way just settle down.

No chance, the rest of the round was the worst I have ever played, in fairness the course was extremely boggy with very slow greens & if you strayed off the fairway the rough was stupidly long, if you did manage to find your ball buried in the long grass & leaves it was near impossible to play out of, with most shots going only a few yards straight back into the long rough again!!

One lad's ball buried itself almost completely in one of the greens, I just lost all interest after about the 6th hole, I have no idea what I scored for the full round, I just know it must have been horrific.

On the upside, the weather was fantastic for November, it was warm enough for a polo shirt for the whole round.

this is one of thr downsides to playing golf in the winter, don't beat yourself up too much because it's hard going when it's so boggy and the rough is so tall.

it's the same at ours, the rough isn't so long but it's still hard to see the ball because of all the leaves and the ball plugs easily if it strays off the fairway...even sometimes on the fairway.

Sounds like my life at the moment.

I started playing in August this year & was just starting to get a rhythm going. The weather has now changed & I'm finding it difficult. Everything feels so different. I think I'm going to forget about scoring for the next few months.

Sounds like my course at the moment. Why they haven't been out to trim the rough is beyond me. Its 50/50 even a yard or so off the cut stuff that you'll find it and it is almost impossible to get out at times. To me for the majority of members it isn't fair, and is makikng rounds slower than it need be and reducing enjoyment. It wouldn't take much to give all the rough a cut. It only needs to be a few inches at this time of year. The wet grass would do the rest and stop you taking liberties
