Course handicap calculation, round down?

Find that really strange. The EG app tells you what your course handicap is, as does the chart on the 1st tee, both say course handicap is 15, no decimal places on there. Are we meant to do all the calculations ourselves rather than using the chart/app?
The software running your competitions does all the Playing Handicap calculations.

You need to know your Course Handicap, as this is what you should hole out with reference to in General Play and Stableford comps - sometimes PH is lower than CH, so the extra stroke(s) could make a difference to nett double bogey adjustments for handicapping if the ball is not holed out on the corresponding hole(s).

You don't need to do any of these calculations yourself. Just play golf and enter your score on the system afterwards.

When checking does the App not tell you your Playing Handicap as well as you Course Handicap.

Not sure I follow, are you talking about taking 95%? Most people won't do that in a general play round and if it's a comp then the computer will do it for you. As @wjemather said, the 95% is of your exact course handicap to 3 decimal places, not the rounded to the nearest full shot course handicap.

If you are doing a roll up and want to play the 95% rule, they yes, I think you need to calculate it yourself unless you just take 95% of the rounded course handicap for easiness.

No, it just tells you your course handicap off each tee, and it’s a whole number. I’ve always just gone with that and taken off 5% for individual comps.

Yeh, I’m just talking about filling out my scorecard pre-competition. I’ll always check the EG app, that tells you what your course handicap is, and then take 5% off depending on the format. Alternatively I could check the chart. But if comp playing handicaps are calculated before any rounding then those methods are pointless. Seems very strange to me.

I’ll just have to remember to ask in the pro shop before each round in future.

Cheers all.

Most club software provides Course and Playing Handicaps for a wide range of formats though an app or touchscreen. I'm guessing yours (HandicapMaster Golf Genius?) does not?

Ah, right. At ours if you sign in on the terminal it will print out all the details for you on a sticker than you stick to the top of the scorecard. No need to write anything out.

We use Club V1 and HowDidIdo.

We do have a computer but it’s upstairs, we only use it to input our scores, wouldn’t really have cause to go up there before a round. It does tell you your PH, but by that time you’ve finished anyway.

At my last club they printed the card out for you, but not where I am at the minute. Glad I asked anyway, cheers all!

Might be worth asking the club/pro shop if they will print out and put up the 95% Playing Handicap table (they can download this from the dotgolf EG WHS portal) for players to reference?

Yeh, I’ll do that, they’ll probably tell me it’s up somewhere!

I cannot see on any post what ISV your club uses

As per DB7 if it is IG you can find the calculations on the IG app
or just using a phone on the club website, in 'mygolf'.

It’s BRS we use?

Just noticed there is a handicap calculator on there, allows you to change the allowance to 95% etc, which is great, only snag is you have to input all the numbers first. Probably easier if I just ask in the pro shop each time.

Edit - mind you, I guess it’s no different to me opening the EG app and calculating it myself.
