For what it is worth, I have carried since day one of picking up a club. This included playing a course week in and week out that mountain goats would baulk at, back then I used a mizuno tourbag too. I did try a leccy trolley for a few weeks but found it more hassle than help. My back has never once given any twinges nor pains. In my mind it has actually helped strengthen my back over the time.

Golf is a sport, just like darts, snooker and tennis.
As well as being outside breathing fresh air, I am competing against other guys while trying to beat the course at the same time. Some guys (more the majority these days) prefer to make the game as less strenuous as possible, well that is up to them, to me I'll carry until my doctor says not to.

so you played the extrem 19 often then? :D

congrats on the back, you are lucky and I hope you remain so.

I think we are forgetting that this topic did not start as a rant about juniors with trolleys - the OP referred to a couple of guys in their 30's. Again it's down to personal choice.

At a young age, carrying a few pounds of golf bag isn't going to keep you in the peak of physical fitness; The important thing (in terms of kids) is that they are out there actually doing something ie playing the game for real instead of Tiger Woods on the PS3.

With regards to kids being dropped off at the course and collected - we don't all live in nice leafy Surrey, I know a lot of areas around here where a kid seen walking down the street with a bag of clubs would soon be totally unencumbered by the aforementioned item.

Darts is not a sport.

That is all

So the poll so far is 2-1 in favour of juniors having electric trolleys.
I'll just keep keep quiet in future
 :(

I am 100% with you Bob.

I can't understand why more people don't carry their clubs. It is easier, less hassle and gives you a better level of exercise.

Juniors with tour bags and trolleys is just ridiculous.

All the comments on this thread about bad backs, needing to carry lots of stuff, bags to heavy etc. You need to toughen up a bit. Your posts read like a mothers meeting for the infirm, weak and soft! :D

As a lad between the ages of 10 and 15, I played 18-36 holes a day for 3 out of 5 days midweek during the summer holidays. I carried a full set in a pencil bag every day and was absolutely fine. The weight of my bag was never a thought that entered my head. There were probably 20 of us that all did this regularly and we were all fit as fiddles. The thought of having a trolley would have been met with total ridicule!

Then again, we were growing up in Yorkshire. Maybe some of these posts are from southerners who are genetically weaker perhaps? :D Or perhaps we were too tight to fork out for a trolley? :D

I still carry now as I don't need loads of stuff and am pretty fit. And I love beating people who have all the gear and no idea too.... :D :D :D

you might be quite fit mate but you sound like a really irritating little man (sorry, meant knob).

My back is not in great shape - possibly a result of carrying a lot of heavy stuff, strapped to my body plus a rifle, in fairly unpleasant places - while you were being tough at home deciding what ball to play.

Get real, it's attitudes like yours that means golf still has got a bit of a rep of being the bastion of stuffy, pompous dinosaurs

Oh dear.

I am not sure you quite took my post in the spirit it was intended Stevie.

then I apologise Snelly, caught me hook line and sinker!
