Anyone a member?

Just round the corner from my work, so thinking about scoping it out. Could do with somewhere nearby for early morning/evening practice that fits around work.

Any non-members played the course? Any good?

My mates are members an I've played it a few times. It's a good course, I would definitely consider it if I was in the area. Some long par 4s make it feel longer than it is.

I played it at the back end of last year. Some interesting-ish holes and a lot of alright holes.

Condition wasn't the greatest but that was the back end of the season. That said, they'd entirely lost one of the greens and had to put black stuff all over it to try and get stuff growing / stop it dying which made it unplayable.

Good half way hut set up though. Order on the 8th, play 8 and 9. It's ready for you to pick up before the 10th.

For me, it's OK. Would depend on money. There's better clubs in the area (not West Mid!) but if the convenience is the main thing then there would be worse places to play.

All i remember about Wyke Green is the approach to Heathrow, the Piccadilly line and a freight line all cutting through the course.

Probably a bit far but Ashford Manor is a decent course in Middlesex.

Good to hear the half way hut is still there...

Played the course many times in the '90s... Had some really good days out there... Could get a bit 'boggy' in the winter but that's the same for nearly all courses built on clay...

Thanks - I drive up the M3 each day, so it's a possibility if I come in past Staines. Was thinking of something on the doorstep though so that I would know what the traffic was doing and could guarantee to be into the office at a certain time.

I've played West Middlesex. Once, about 2 years ago. Given its location, I was impressed they'd managed to avoid it being trashed by local yoofs, but it wasn't the most interesting of tracks. Members were not particularly pleasant - it was a society day and a number made it quite clear that they would have preferred us not to be there.

There was also a very interesting trench dug in one of the bunkers - looked like they were about to bury someone. Could have been the head greenkeeper I imagine, would have explained a few things... ;)

From things I've heard the club could be in a bit of trouble. Is being 'saved' by a small number of loyal members not leaving, but I think if they lost 20 or so members that would be the end. The problem they've got is that there's probably 8 better courses within 20 minutes or so and they are not that much more expensive.

Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't still there in 10 years as people look for more land to build on.

Could be said West Mid has been "in a bit of trouble" for many years...

I can confirm that West Middlesex is very much alive and well.

The scratch team won the counties County Championship last year and they have the current County Champion as a member.

The course is in great nick and the membership usually very welcoming.

I like Wyke Green, go there every year to play in their Open, The Worman (sp) Sword. One of my friends won it a couple of years back.

I think its a nice course, some nice holes, few straight forward not too difficult ones. Its always in good nick when the open is on but I have heard members moan that its only then its in that good of condition. But 2 rounds of golf, lunch and dinner for £35 is fantastic value.
