Wrist Hinge

The two pictures that would matter are the clubshaft at address and at impact, the ones in the previous are random.. I don't have software to capture that.

Impact and address would/should be the same, especially from a down-the-line view, hands more forwards if viewed face on.

More amateurs would come thru with HIGH HANDS, basically less #3 accumulator angle.... but then that depends what they are doing with their #2 accumulator.... complicated, sorry. Some pros actually come thru with higher hands.

It's all about understanding 3D motion, not what you see in a face on or DTL view, but a blend of both, just like the 'arm swing illusion' that I showed with cigarettes.

OK, OK  What I started out trying to do was suggest that the golf swing should be simpler to make ball striking easier.

The golf swing IS simple... well I think so. All you have to do is understand it... everyone else seems to make it complicated with their WRONG or MISLEADING videos!!! And players themselves just INVENT MOVES themselves that they think makes their swing better, maybe they've misread or misheard something... most can't even get their grip right!!! :p

Well thats kinda right, not all videos are misleading though. I think the golf swing becomes difficult for many as they are encouraged to try and recreate the action of world class golfers and they could dramatically reduce their handicaps by having a swing that is simple, repeatable with few moving parts.

Chaps ....... you should spend more time playing golf ;)

From your result yesterday, apparently not!

But I agree!

My last planned comment in here...

I've seen that Sev does cock his wrists - and I bet SR does too!

Oh and a 1 ton weight on the shoulder of a stick-man is not lag, though the victim might lag in a race!

And a PS: Dtl impact and setup positions should be pretty much the same, but Face On, there's quite a difference!

I try to explain to people that after P2 the golf swing is only about 18-20 inches long :p which is weird if you think about it... and people thinking that the club goes around behind them is a big swing killer before they've even swung it.

Maybe something for another thread. "Golf Swing Myths' Clubhead toe passing the heel for a draw etc.

Edit:

Might be a primer for ball flight laws though :)

Who's that in your Avatar?

SLH, this may surprise you but this is a Golf Forum

I get it's a golf forum - but I don't get golf techno-babble. Others here seem to love it but it just seems to me to complicate what is ostensibly a very simple game - though hard to master. Me? I just matched my swing with the pictures in a book - no idea what the 'technical' description of what I was doing would be and it never crossed my mind.

But maybe that's just me - golf is hard enough for me without cluttering my mind with clever swing analysis stuff. And that's why I tend to hit the 'ignore' button. And the reason I bother posting this? For newbies! - to whom I would suggest that they ignore most of the more advanced swing mechanics golf talk posted here, get proper lessons and focus their thoughts when playing on the course management aspect of the game.

BTW - I asked my pro today "what's stack and tilt" and he said - don't bother with that - it would be of absolutely no use to you. I guess as he knows me and my swing :)

Agree with this.

Also the video in the original post is spot on, if the grip is correct the wrists hinge/unhinge naturally why complicate it?

Read my OP. I want to simplify the swing. Seems llke you missed that ignore button :(

I will revisit you on this when you are posting on Scottish Independence issue and I don't give a toss.

If you get in your car, turn the key, and drive it to Asda once a week then good for you..... but moaning at people who want to look under the bonnet and figure out how to change the spark plugs/fan belt is just pathetic.

That said, I do wish that more people were able to match their swings to pictures in books - would save a lot of hassle because normally they don't swing like any book I've ever seen!!!

Of course now we are going to have to see your swing to see which book you read....... :whoo:

I'm not moaning - I'm saying a don't read 'golf mechanics' stuff either here or in any magazine as it is not for me - and I don't think it's for new players or perhaps even higher handicappers either. There are ways of teaching golf that don't involve this sort of detailed analysis.

BTW - my avatar should tell you all you need about the book I read when a young teen and that I still flick through to refresh and re-synchronise the parts of my grey matter that work together when I pick up a golf club. In fact these days most of the time I don't actually read the text - I just look at the pictures - which some might say...:)

Also my belief is that you don't actually have to understand the detailed mechanics of the swing to be able to 'match' yourself to series of pictures, but if you emulate body and club positions through a swing and practice that, and then you can replay them in your head then you will end up with a half decent and workable swing. Nonsensical rubbish? or actually just the way the body and mind work together to learn things?

Of course some of the population actually work mechanically... they are the ones who design the clubs we use, the computers we are accessing the forum with, the electrical installations which power them... lots and lots of people who simply need a mechanical understanding.

Wrist hinge - what a nightmare. Too much hinge, too early, nasty club face position. Cut that out. Ok. Now a totally different wrist movement, swing flat and laid off. Time to cut that out too. Yeesh. Not sure how one goes about correcting a flat plane/closed club face without getting technical...

Hogans 5 Lessons is quite a complex book regarding the swing. It goes into a fair amount of detail with the swing plane, supination, kinetic linking, etc etc. He was probably one of the first to break down the golf swing into it's component parts.

Sounds like you should be 'Swings Like Daly' Grip it and Rip it !! :)
