Would you play with this forecast?

Would you be on the 1st tee?

  • Absolutely, it's only a bit of wind

It's not that bad really. Add some rain into the mix and it would become unpleasant quite quickly. Having grown up playing at Fortrose & Rosemarkie GC, a 40mph crosswind is really just a wee breeze...

no thanks

i have played my share of golf under stressful conditions

i play for pleasure these days and masochism is not one of mine

Not a chance.
I played at Cromer once (36 holes) and as nice at it is, no course is worth going out and enduring that sort of wind.
Also bear in mind that it's situated on the top of cliffs overlooking Cromer so any wind forecast is likely to be twice as strong up there!!
We played it on a fairly benign day but still had to contend with 20mph winds whipping across the course with little or no shelter from it.
Bit like East Brighton down this way... you can go down there with hardly a puff of wind at sea level but be almost blown off your feet up on top of the course.
Another thing is if it is that windy, how is your ball going to stay put on the greens???
Not for me

Looks like all of us that's playing on Wednesday anywhere in the country is going to get blown about, think I'll get the clippers out, can't be doing with my hair getting in my eyes whilst trying to take a shot...

Yep, and have played in that and worse over the last 6 weeks. It's all about having the right attitude so if you're gonna get to the first tee having already decided it's too windy then don't bother.

Well I'm due to be playing at Frinton on Wednesday in similar conditions.... and unless rain joins in with the wind I have every intention of playing.

Yeah, I'd probably play providing there's no rain. Rain I don't mind, Wind I don't mind. Two of them together and I'm finding something else to do.

I actually play some of my best golf in bad conditions for some reason. Probably something to do with playing a lot more 3/4 swings and controlling the ball much better.

Wouldn't cross my mind not to play unless it was raining!

Same here.

Playing in strong wind can bring your game on loads, if you play the right shots.

Most times when it says 40mph, it is that at its worse, but you'll probably find that is mostly around 20 mph.

That said it was forecast 40-50 mph, and rain last year and we were due to play Birkdale. Luckily they let us postpone, so still got it to look forward to. I'm not paying £150+ to play a great course in that though, unless I couldn't have cancelled.
