Would you pay £350 to play Royal Lytham?

Not on my current income.

If I won the lottery and money was no object I would consider playing some of the well known courses but I do not think Lytham would be on that list.

Most I have paid anywhere to play has been £30. There just has not been the appeal to pay out loads of dosh to play a game of golf bearing in mind that I have played almost every Dorset and South Somerset course for free via County Card or club matches.

No.

Golf is getting out of hand.
But Americans use price as a guide to quality.
So why not adopt their system( we did with WHS)

Tourist rate charge what you like.
Uk citizen charge a reasonable fee.

But if they can get it they will that’s just buisness

Played there lots in the days when prices were "less daft."

If it were required to complete the Open Rota, I'd pay it. I've no urge to go back at the mo.

There are some others of similar money, I'd pay without hesitation.

Chap I played with this morning always moans about green fees. I estimate he's spending more on drink over a weekend.

Personal choice I suppose.

No. When golfing, the vast majority of any pleasure I get is from hitting good shots, the more the better. While I can get this pleasure on any old goat track, the pleasure is enhanced if I'm playing a nice course, and there are plenty of those out there for a fraction of that price.

In fact, I suspect that golf at that price would detract from the actual play, I'd probably be wandering around looking for my £350 worth. Great Expectations and all that.

Quality rather than quantity, hopefully.

Looking at it now it's really hard to believe that I've managed to play so many of the UK Top 100 without the sort of cost for a round that is expected these days. It's many thanks to the early days of the HDIDO Forum (now but a shadow) & GM's arrange a game. Great days now gone.

Not a chance!. I've been able to play it for free representing our club a few times. Played nicer courses for less money than that!

The tourist market definitely is at a play again. I know a member of a club in Ireland called carne. His membership was like 500 euro at first , still low but the green fee is 100 euro (was when he told me) because if they didn't go to that level the us market werent interested as they see price as mark of quality.
Crane is an absolute Gem of a course. It is a thing of beauty.I was recommended to play that course by forummers on here.
Whilst playing it I was stuck behind 4 guys, I was playing solo with Missis T as cheerleader. After four holes they let me through. I had a natter with them. They were from Canada, they had played all Over the world and said “ Carne Is our favourite golf course in the world”. They go back every two years. It was a very quiet course but apparently popular with tourists. It takes some getting to as well.

As someone has mentioned previously I just couldn't afford to pay that amount for a round of golf. I remember a few years ago counting what it would cost to play all the Open rota courses. At the time I think it was about 2k, probably more than double that now.

No chance. Don't think I'd ever pay more than £100 to play anywhere - unless in very extenuating circumstances.

Ultimately, no matter how nice the venue, we're still playing the same game. Just like I wouldn't pay £350 to play football at Wembley, since I'm still cack at football. 😂

Would love a hit round a lot of these big name courses but never paying those sort of prices. Crazy. Maybe if money was no option or a lottery win. Even then would probably still grudge it.

Nope…no chance

But I likely will ‘have’ (🤪😂) to pay that or more to complete the open rota (which I absolutely do want to do) when I play Portrush and Troon at some point

What? People used to meet up and play golf? Crikey! :-)
