We have a place (golf one) just round the corner to me. It uses Track man simulators.
Are the places worth using , or would a bucket of ball at the local range (Toptracer) give more meaningful data .
It’s a little more pricey, a bit closer to, armed at this time of year and I can get a coffee as well…

Indoor Trackman numbers are pretty accurate in my experience - but a lot more expensive that way. Depends how accurate you need it to be. If you're doing a gapping session then it's probably worth doing it indoors. Outdoor ones vary quite a lot.

At least on an indoor system you can use the balls you would usually use out on the course...will give far more useful information than range balls, which will have all manner of compromises in terms of ball speed, spin, launch etc.

I've just had two saturday mornings in a Trackman indoor sim. It was torrential outside, and we were with our regular foursome - and had a total blast. I love having the stats in the app to browse after the event, and we play famous courses and have a laugh. It's more expensive than a regular range, but a lot cheaper than an actual round. And you get to hit good balls instead of range rocks. So, I think it's worth it, especially if you split the cost.

Definitely worthwhile for the use decent balls reason. Also when the weathers wild good to still get a hit indoors.

Went along today , special deal weekday mornings (excluding Fridays) 10 quid for an hour.

Far greater analysis than the local top tracer range, warmer, and overall really good fun.
Came away feeling a lot better about my golf too, largely because the titliest balls went about 15 % “further” so my drives were looking a lot less crap..

Could Weil become a weekly thing in addition to the evening or two at the range

Update On my Trackman experience.
Whilst I have been off work for the past 6 weeks are have been visiting rather frequently (the Bell’s palsy doesn’t affect playing golf indoors)
Started off just using the range with a focus on keeping it straight.
Adjustments to my grip and a lesson to assist with my swing helped a lot .
3 weeks ago I took a punt and had a go at a 9 hole par 36 course . With Automatic putting (2 inside 60ft , 3 outside) I got a Trackman Hcp of 49 !

However 8 nine hole rounds later and I have got it down to 28.7, with the odd par ,and even two birdies on the way.

First excursion on to proper grass in two weeks. My wife and I are having a mid week break and we are staying at Astbury , so I will have a round there.
Looks like I will need to buy a fairway mat though…

Buy a Spurk.

Do the indoor Trackman sims use full Trackman which gives club data (face path, angle of attack, etc.) or is it just the same as a Trackman Range where it gives ball data only?

They certainly have more information that the outdoor ranges, yes. But I'd even say not all indoor Trackmans are equal. I've been to one that was very detailed, and another one that was only a bit more detailed than the outdoor version. It should give you the basics such as swing speed, ball speed, angle of attack and so on. (But the last one I went to missed some of these on some of the shots so I guess it wasn't very good.)

The indoor trackman that I use gives a host of club related data...AoA and Club Path, Face to Path, Impact Offset (both heel/toe and high/low)...sometimes it struggles to pick up the AoA for the irons (never the woods/hybrids)...I don't know whether that is a function of the general lighting conditions or not....it is relatively dark environment...very intimate and relaxing!!
