Yep and you would be surprised at how many said no and some of them very good players. I never play comps to win them as there are too many cheats in this game. I play to lower my HCP and that's it.

that's just sad........

I've seen many good players not understand the rules properly but the ones you've asked have obviously just admitted they openly cheat in competitions..........very sad indeed:(

I cant see why anyone wouldnt...no wait of course i would see WHY SOME would, your only cheating yourself in the end

i had something similar two years ago i had a put of about 2 feet and hit it so hard it done a 180 and came back to me almost to where the original putt was.

my opponent asked if i was going to hit as he hadnt seen it, i told him what happened, he had already marked me as a 4....already so had to change it

I still managed a cut that day but wouldnt have felt good about myself if i had cheated to get it

No, you're cheating everyone. What if that shot wins you something, then you've cheated the person you beat. What if it puts you in the buffer and tips the CSS calculation, you've cheated all those who went up 0.1.

TBH, I can't believe you have started a poll on this, are you really expecting people to admit to cheating in public? There may be some that wouldn't call it but I very much doubt they would own up to it in your poll. Private or not, I'm sure there will be people that can see the results of the poll.

I can see them

This.......

Maybe I'm slightly more cynical than most, but I know that there are more than a few out in the real world who would not have called it. This poll in no way represents what would happen on the course IMO... I don't like saying it, but I believe it..:(

Hang on I never once said should I have called it, ive asked the question as the people I told about it said why did you count it? It was a gimme and so on. Nothing is a gimme in stableford which I understand and I was purely asking the question to gauge the response of a wider audience. If some of you guys think your playing the amature game with a honest field then you must be a bit simple.

This man talks sense and lives in the real world

This is a golf forum and only represents real hard core golfers... Your average golfer does not join a forum, he/she has a life. If that is the case I want to believe that a very large percentage of members of the forum would .... And its not even call it, its WRITE DOWN THE SCORE!!

How can this post still be running, its writing down the amount of shots you have had be they 300 yards or 300mm.

Just reading through and people are responding to the post as if I asked if I had done the right thing. Why??? I never once said should I have and the purpose of the poll was to see if the response I received was the same as I got from people I told 1to1. One guy who said no way would he have called it is the captain of a large society... What does that tell ya?

I've never once cheated in this game and never would. If anything I'm over strict with the rules and should learn to use them in my favour.

That's not exactly what he said.

I do believe that the way people respond on a forum may not correlate exactly with how they act in the real world. Private poll or not...

He's implying that the 2 NO's must be someone messing around therefore meaning that the entire forum who took part answered yes.

It doesn't matter if the whole population of the UK answers Yes. What some would do on the course is different. I think you asked a good question in the OP, I just don't think you'll get a 100% honest response....

Exactly the reason why competitions should ALWAYS be drawn.
Too many cheats and too many golfers who don't know the rules.
I make a point of trying to play with different people in every comp, as my club have allocated tee times, and not drawn groups.

Why? Plenty out there who would not have called it. Should also point out that some on here may answer differently to how they would answer in the clubhouse with their mates. Do you really believe that there are no cheats in the world???

For avoidance of doubt, I would have called it. I called a double hit on myself in a comp earlier in the year. No one within 80 yards of me...

I'm not saying there are no cheats out there, but there is a difference between nudging your ball into a better lie in the rough and not counting a missed tap in when it comes to degrees of blatancy!

And I'm not sure there are "plenty" out there who would do the same. If the current state of the poll is indicative, around 2%

Don't see the difference...
