Would you drop live TV to save £145.50 a year?

Could you stop paying a TV license?

  • I'm stuck with the license. To much use from broadcast TV.

The only thing I watch live is sport (football and golf). Most good shows are available to stream quicker than they are on over here, through Netflix, Amazon Prime or iTunes all with no adverts! Even content on youtube is better than most of the crap on TV these days

'cause that's the T'interweb not 'aired' broadcasts

But if I were to use Now TV to watch Sky Sports on my laptop via T'interwebs I would have to pay a license.

That's what I find weird.

Watch catch up content online created by the BBC funded by a TV license and you don't have to pay.

Watch Live content created by a subscription based broadcaster and I have to pay the BBC. Go figure.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy plenty of BBC content and don't mind the TV licence. Without them I couldn't see half of documentaries I enjoy, such as Life, Frozen Planet or Wonders of the Universe to name a few being created the way they have been.Just find the loop holes strange.

Going one step further, one of wor lasses friends, doesn't have a TV in the house, not that her, or husband can't afford one, they just prefer to read books. Her argument, I'm not paying to watch the rubbish that gets pumped out.

Fair point.

But you can make a very good argument to say that whilst there is some rubbish on TV, there is also so much really good stuff that at times can rival any film in terms of storytelling and acting.

Yes, this is why we still have ours. I got very very close to stopping paying the license fee a few months ago. Almost everything we were watching we were obtaining from other sources. Due to a phone call Virgin when I was about to cut it off the lady asked how we were going to watch TV, so I explained it to here. £10 reduction in bill immediately, so we kept it all on, but the day will arrive when we stop paying the license. As has been said, I also cannot believe this has not been challenged. It is unfair trading!!!!!!!!
