I thought it might be fun to ask about worst disaster holes.....

I remember losing a par 5 (in match play) to an 11 once.....I wasn't even putting for a 12!!!

True story.........

I played in a local club open one summer with an 18 hcap who was doing really well. We reached the last hole (par 4), and he was 6 over (and all the rest of 4-ball were gunning for him). So, the poor chap mishits his drive and drills the ball into the ladies tee stone......following which, it went back over our heads and ended up around the trees surrounding the 17th green. It took 3 shots to get past the tee and he ended up taking a 9......bizarre......

Please pass on your best stories.....

A couple of months ago while playing in a strokeplay competition, I was standing on the 14th tee at 4 over.
The 14th is SI 1 and the river runs tight along the right hand side. I had been driving really well all day and taking the big stick out held no fear whatsoever, 1st ball= big slice=OB, 2nd ball=big slice=OB, 3rd ball=big slice=OB, 4th ball=change of tactic=3 iron=topped it, 4 iron up to about 80 yards then proceeded to lob next shot into greenside bunker, took 3 from there. Managed to treble my score to par on one hole.
Then had the cheek to birdie the 15th.

Isnt golf great

Hey smange - that's the kind of story.....grim!

Has it changed your tactics since then? You get a stroke, is it too long to consider a safer choice off the tee!

If you'd par'd it and then made a birdie....well 3 over with 3 to play....nice score.

If i am in same situation in september strokeplay competition, i will still play my driver, as i said, had been driving really well and had no reason to worry about hitting driver.
It was just one of those freak holes we all have from time to time, you know the sort, just as likely to happen as holing your second shot for an eagle from 160 yards.

Thats golf and thats what makes it great.
