Hey, we know what we golfers are like, show us a shiny new piece of kit and we just have to have it,with this in mind what is your WORST ever purchase? you know, the one you just couldn't play without that turned into a disaster. Mine was a Cleveland XL Tour 9.5 stiff driver. It looked fantastic, couldn't hit it to save my life though, back on the second hand rack in days.

Odyssey Marxman chipper for me, I had a bad day with a couple of duffed chips and that was it I decided I couldn't chip with an iron, I got it on ebay for £62 it took up space in my bag, didnt improve my chipping, knocked my confidence around the green, and I sold it 3 weeks later for £40 :D

Set of Callaway X18 irons fitted with S300 shafts.
If ever there was an advert for trying before you buy this was it.
Felt like pokers in my hands and although I tried to convince myself I could get on with them....I couldn't.

Funny this, just got a new set of R7 TPs, played a couple of rounds and I'm back to my standard ones. They're in the for sale section....mint.

I tried a set just a while ago, I didnt fancy them but they had rifle shafts, so I put it down to that. Basically got them off the shelf with r DG shafts and I couldn't hit a barn door with them. When I did flush it it was cotton, but give me the offset on the standard set.

There you go, I confess.

The moment I read the title of this thread I thought Smiffy and the G15. A thread made for you mate.

For me, I don't know. I have never really impulse bought a golf club. I had MacGregor blades for about 3 years, and although I loved them, I guess it took me that long to realise that I couldn't hit the longer irons consistently. However, neither playing with them, or changing to something else has effected my handicap, so they can't have been that bad.

so no big mistakes for me.

Just after they came out I bought a Taylor-Made rescue club - not the driving iron original but the first of the modern style.
3 iron replacement and I could hit a chunk of 4x2 better.
I couldn't get the ball off the ground no matter what I tried. It was easier with the putter!!

3 woods!!!!......i've got a cupboard full, and i can't use any of them.
I see a shiny new one advertised and how forgiving it is and how it's so simple to use.....blah blah blah!!!

Just sold my 3w. Only ever had 3 of them, but have now decided not to carry one. Useless things in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more.....stupid club!!!! What idiot invented it?

I just carry a Driver and a 19 deg rescue at the moment and i seem to be surviving! :D

Mizuno MP600 driver, fell in love with the clasic looks of the club and splashed out despite my pro telling me to put my money away.

It was classic alright, sadly it performed like a classic driver from the 1800's. Cue £80 loss as it went straight onto ebay after a few weeks.

I bought a powered golf trolley and within a couple of months got rid of it again, I just did not like the fact you could only use it in certain places on the course and it was a general pain in the back side when it came to charging.
Carrying for the win.

I can't remember the brand but I once bought a trolley that broke after 3 rounds of golf - absolute rubbish.

Clubwise a Callaway Warbird 4-wood with a stiff shaft. Did I ever hit a decent shot with it?
I never used a stiff shaft again thereafter.

Callaway X 22 Tours ,there my current irons and hate them ,loved them at first and now cant hit them out my shadow.Got down to 9 with my Titliest AP2'S then decided on a change now regretting it. The new model is out soon so might pick the old model cheaper

Cobra L5V driver, loved the looks, smacked it over the fence at a demo and then couldn't get it past the ladies tee once I bought it. Hated this club so much that I've now got an irrational dislike for my cobra umbrella

Out of interest, why did you want to change from AP2's when you are at 9 handicap, I thought these clubs were more than useful to a much lower number than this ?

I know people off less than 6 that swear by them.

I bought a set of custom fitted X20's and hated them. Ugly club with huge offset and hit the ball way too high with them. Got rid very quickly and got a set of R7's which I loved. Moved on to the Tour Burner and sort of regretted the decision although I hit them well there was something about the R7's that I couldn't replicate Problem solved now I have my R9's!

Probably the 17 & 20 degree Mizuno CLK rescue clubs. I've not had the courage to start playing with them again.

MX500 driver from Mizuno also. Draw biased. Great when I had a slice. Not so good now when my good shots are draws and my bad ones are hooks! It's still sat in the garage.

To be slightly more positive. The best value buy was a Donnay 5 and 7 wood. £10 each and have replaced both CLKs in the bag. I should probably try some better quality woods; but if they work, I'll just have to live with the embarrasment for the time being. Christmas soon!

Both are still in my bag, My DF6 3W and my DH6 2H.

Went to Nevada Bob to look at these along with Benross V6 3W and 2H. My thoughts were the Benross models had the same (Aldila NV stiff) shaft as a driver I had been fitted for and I loved my DF6 3H (Steel shaft) so these were my choices

I hit into a net but was told that the numbers were better for the Wilson models for both the 3W and Hybrid as the Benross produced too much spin. At the time I felt that the Wilson Models felt slightly dead at impact but went for them anyway.

On course the feel is still the same and I struggle to get them both airborne. Think the V2 stiff shaft is way too stiff for me.

If I could be bothered to fix a scuff mark on the 3W and take some photos both would be appearing on here for sale

Years ago I bought a Hogan driver - steel shaft and the smallest head ever!!! I think it was made of tin foil with a liquid centre - no matter how I hit it, the ball went about twenty yards. Believe it or not, I've still got it - I'm hopeful that one day I'll hit a good shot with it. I'd pack the game up then... :o
