World Cup Failure Across All 3 Sports

England will win the Euros, just look at the exciting talent coming through..Barkley,Sterling,Kane,Wilshere....

Anyone else convinced?

Nope. They will be the same disappointments that have come along in recent years. They will be hyped up by the media as they play in the "best league in the world" (just dont mention how Arsenal were outplayed by Monaco and Man City by Barcelona) so they must be world class players.

That's not why they get hyped up

The prem itself has a lot of top players playing in it

They automatically get hyped up regardless where they play.

I couldn't even convince myself, none of the youngsters coming through look any better than the bang average players they'll be replacing.

Half of the problem with England in the ODIs is that they pick alleged "specialists"

Surely pick the best overall players! Geoff Boycott was never classed as a one day player but he hit a 100 in a winning Gillette Cup final team.

Think you are writing the rugby boys off a bit prematurely, they can mix it with anyone, don't forget they are playing the six nations with an injury ravaged team!

Of the three, footballs probably got the best excuse for failing because far more countries take it seriously.

Outside these islands how many countries take cricket or rugby union that seriously, half a dozen or so?

I give you the MD of English cricket

Words that spring to mind: patronising, delusional, out of date, clueless, lying, smarmy, punchable face, weak, spineless

Best bit is he blames the ECB structure and decisions re T20 participation without even realising. Utter clueless idiot but part of the old boys network so everythings fine. Good to see he still supports the failure (for the 2nd time) that is Peter Moores, the guy who reputedly only got the job as he was the only one prepared to toe the line re KP

It's no real surprise with the football and cricket

Everything from top to bottom is wrong

The rugby is doing ok and will be in with a shout for the next world cup

Correct. Full of "nobs" (now not that sort.... the nobby nobs) who really get on my nerves with their jobs for the boys attitude. Trevor Brooking has got his nose in the FA trough by spouting all the stuff they like to hear but without any substance.
But don't worry I'm about to embark on teaching some kids of 7 how to play the game, and I will pay only a tiny amount of notice in what the FA say. They will learn how to play with the ball on the floor and in all positions too, a la Ajax !!!

Not to worry, City and Arsenal don't have any English players!!!! LOL

English cricket is in a mess but needs sorting out from the top down but I still think to a degree there's "jobs for the boys and old school tie" involved and not enough professionalism in the running of the sport across all facets (test, one day 20/20, county level and all the way down to grass routes). Similar issue in the FA and football but their problem is the side are hyped by the media and then pulled apart when they fail. There is a "fear" in the England side other nations don't have who are successful and seem to play with more speed and freedom

Of all the sports, rugby is the only one that seems to have a decent management structure at the top level and while I think the current team is a long way from beaten the southern hemisphere sides and winning the world cup I feel that they are making regular and constant progress

You can take the ECB out of the MCC but you cant take the MCC out of the ECB.

Yes, but they do not necessarily play at other sports that we compete in. Australia punch above their weight to be fair, sport obsessed, but outside of rugby New Zealand are bog average or poor at most other sports. They currently have a good one day cricket team but that goes in cycles. We try to be good at everything and we are not big enough to manage that.

Play a test series of 3 games, England v Australia, football, cricket and rugby. My money would be on England for most of those. Don't forget it is only the last Ashes cricket we lost. Before that we had been on a good run.

Football I'll give you, Cricket is close but the Aussies are a step too far in both codes of rugby particularly rugby league

Think your spot on in regards League but Union ? England certainly match them and beat them on the Rugby Union pitch
