As some of you may know I had a share in a racehorse, Dream Alliance, who was bred on an allotment in the Welsh valleys by Jan (a cleaner at Asda) and her husband Brian. The horse exceeded all expectations and won Wales' biggest race the Welsh Grand National in 2009. The story was the subject of a documentary film Dark Horse that a few of you may have seen.

They bred another horse, Impossible Dream, who was born in the Spring of 2015 and he and his mother Juwireya stayed in a stable at the allotment. Juwireya won a race for us last year at Stratford and Impossible Dream was to join Philip Hobbs' racing stable in 2018.

This morning some sick individual(s) set fire to the stable and Impossible Dream was killed and his mother has suffered severe burns.

I just cannot comprehend what motivates someone to do this and above all my heart goes out to Jan and Brian who give such care and attention to their horses.

so so sad, sorry to hear :( followed dream alliance and made a few quid off it from talking to (i think a different) shareholder than you on a different forum

Terrible sad news GG.

Disgusting behaviour, hopefully the culprits are caught and are dealt with properly.

Do you think it was intentional? If so I hope they catch the scum.

My Mrs as horses & we had someone sleeping in the hay stable a few years back, that why I ask if you think it was intentional.

The fire brigade's initial thought is arson.

Sickening. Any cruelty to animals breaks my heart.

Could it have been to do with gambling? Personally, I am against gambling as this industry can be a cause of animal cruelty.

No offence intended as I really feel for the horses and caring owners. I hope they catch those involved and give them a suitable sentence.

Can't believe it, was just reading the story about it on the front page of the BBC news site 10 mins before I came on here.
Disgust and sorrow, don't know which I feel the most

Are you mad? What makes you think gambling causes animal cruelty?

Horrible horrible news mate, I'm absolutely gutted for you and the whole syndicate.
I had to watch the film again with the family after reading this thread, they hadn't seen it before and I haven't mentioned what has happened to them, they absolutely loved it.
Sometimes I'm surprised just how low some people will go.

Mad, not at all.

A quick search on line will highlight what can happen to horses and greyhounds that don't make the grade or are "past their best" with regard to earning money.

That’s different to gambling causes cruelty though.

Racehorses and greyhounds are bred for a purpose and when they are in training they are very well looked after and cared for.

Sorry, gambling on events with animals can cause cruelty to the animals that no longer make a profit.

Gambling causes misery to thousands of people as well.
