Woods. Contender or making up the numbers

I am actually contemplating throwing a few quid on Tiger for an e/w. Watching him yesterday he seemed very relaxed and different to how he has been seen for a long time. yes he has had injuries, but i very much doubt he would risk further injury by playing if not ready.

If there is one guy in the field that knows how to win its him. Yep, i talked myself into it! fiver e/w on tiger here i go!!

EDIT: Just seen he has dropped from 45/1 yesterday to 28/1 today!! not sure if i will bother now..

I put a couple of quid on at forties. Worth a punt, I thought.

Roots, I got him at 45/1 on Monday after watching his funked up practice! hehe that guy has no worries about his game really, he may hit the odd handicapper shot but hes a survivor.

Nice!! exactly, class is permanent etc etc. and i am not a Tiger fan, but you can not write him off!

I got him at 45/1 as well. Worth a punt, as you say - he definitely knows how to win round Augusta if he has sorted his game out.

On the other hand, HID has a wee double for both Tiger and Rory to miss the cut, cos Tiger's lost it and Rory looks nervous, apparently.

:D

:D

I'd look at bit nervy too if my boyband caddy took my clubs for a tumble the day before my opening round :D

Physically he looks fine, assuming he stays out of positions where he has to muscle it or take awkward stances.

Mentally he looks relaxed and whilst he says he's there to win, I think he's there to prove he's not finished and he's confident he can do that.

I think he makes the cut, treats Saturday like moving day and either blows up or plays himself into contention. I think top 25 is a good tournament for him and golf.

Think he will do well to make the cut

His driving will put him trouble

My thoughts exactly. I can't see him winning but you just never know with Tiger.

Tiger fan or not, when he is in the mix it certainly gets exciting!

I have a funny feeling he is going to be up there or thereabouts. Last week, I wouldn't have said he had a hope...but after his practice sessions and par 3 performance, it could be OK! I think his Par 3 appearance was a smart move...and he could test his short game in a reasonably competitive environment to see how it holds up. Recent swing changes and going back to his TW '11 shoes is also an interesting move.

One thing is for sure...this Masters has a lot of sub-plots that we are going to find the answers out to very shortly.

Iv never been a tiger fan either and the way he has mopped about courses for the last few years has made me dislike him even more. He looked like he would rather be anywhere other than on a golf course.
Yesterday at the par 3 I saw a different tiger, relaxed, happy and looking like he was enjoying himself. His class is permanent and I think if he can carry that mental attitude he had yesterday into the tournament instead of beating himself up and behaving like a surly 10 year old then he could do well. Don't think he will win but he might do top 25.

Slightly off topic (sorry!) but one person who will be delighted he is playing is Rory. So much attention taken away from him in the build up, and another story on the course for the media to sink their teeth into for the first couple of days is surely a good thing for him.

I've had a small wager on him to miss the cut at evens, but it would be great to see him competing down the stretch. If WD or comfortable MC, I think it may be the last we see of him sadly.

Ive stuck a 5 spot each way on a top five.

More a speculator than anything else. I would absolutely love to Tiger silence a few critics this week though.

Don't know what to expect at all, if he can take the few swings of his that we saw yesterday into the competition proper I think he'll do very well, but I suspect once he gets that driver in hand this afternoon measured easy swing will disappear again.

Hope his kids are there for the week as they may be a positive influence on him!

He has to say he can win. That is his personality type. He always focuses on the positives. This is the mentality that if you believe you can do something, you are half way there.

I believe he will be an also-ran unfortunately. There are some serious contenders for the green jacket this year, but I can't see Tiger being one of them.

There's a big difference between hitting wedges on the par3 course when it doesnt matter and trying to outdrive Bubba when it does.
He looked very protective of his back as he walked around yesterday.

And because of that, I think he still has back issues and if he tries to rip every drive, he will retire injured half way through the 2nd round.

I foresee a lot of stingers, that way he doesnt need to keep up.
He is out with Jamie Donaldson and Jimmy Walker for the first two rounds, neither are huge iirc.

Jimmy Walker is a relatively long hitter, but not one of the real bombers.

Just looked him up - 17th on the PGA tour in driving distance with 301 yards average.
