Wonderful gesture from Rory

Regarding celebrities always getting their faces on these charities, there monetary contribution is not the biggest thing here, it is the publicity that the charity will get too. I would never have heard of this place like many others, if Rory had not done this.

But I will agree that some celebrities, not all, do it just as a publicity stunt and it normally coincides with a drop in popularity for what ever reason. But there are a lot of generous celebrities out there that not only chuck some cash in, but actually help with fund raising and other stuff we do not necessarily hear about.

The donation is terrific. The running costs show he actually cares and its not just a tax write off/good publicity.

Well done Rory and all the others who support/work for causes such as this. A big,big thumbs up from me.

U

1) What has people getting paid for their wedding photos got to do with celebs fronting charities and not donating?
2) How do you know the money for said photoshoots goes straight into their bank accounts and they don't donate fortunes to charity elsewhere?

1, because as has been mentioned on here George colonel has donated his photoshoot money from the wedding to charity, and like Rory he does not need the publicity.

2, Why would you not state that your money for said wedding photoshoot went to charity. What would there be to gain by that. Like I have previously mentioned these celebs are role models and for some to say they have donated to said charity may encourage others.

some celebs, and I use the term very loosely, are only interested in getting there faces in the papers and making money by what ever means possible, without a moments thought for others less fortunate. There are tens of thousands of Joe publics who put more time effort and money into charity than some celebs who have forgotten where they have come from, or can't even remember where they are from. thankfully Rory is not one of them.

But your original point was abut celebs fronting charities for an hour and not donating. That has naff all to do with someone getting paid for their wedding photos and doesn't answer my original question.

Secondly, if it were me, I wouldn't be shouting about every donation I made as I suspect most don't. What they donate to charity is their business and no one else's. If OK magazine or whatever other trash want to pay £250k for wedding photos, why should they celebs have to justify it? After all, the only reason it is paid is because the readers want to see it. If you have a problem with the money, don't buy the magazine.

As for celebrities being role models, I've never understood why that would be, it's not like we actually really know them.

Hawkeye your right it was my original point, but it was only one example (wedding photo money), celeb big brother, (made up of ex celebs trying to gain fame)( I,m a celeb ? Get me outta here )of some celebs, trying to gain fame.

Rory, Stevie Gerrard and many others who don't need the fame but have a genuine interest in a charity close to there heart in which they have a personal link connection are d totally different breed. And yes it is up to the individual if they want to disclose if they have donated to a charity or not. But that was not my point. My point was celebs who use charities just to get there face in the paper for there own good, but have no genuine interest in said charity. Yes it will benefit charities by having said celebs face at a charity event but I sometimes and certainly not always question there initial motives for being there.

It's not just celebrities though. The london marathon is a good example of normal people running for charities they have no link to purely to get a place in the race. At the end of the day, if the charity benefits, who really cares?

it would be great if every charity benefitted from the McIlroy's of this world, but they don't so they get publicity where they can, there's no point concerning yourself with it.

Sorry, always been a Rory fan and still am but this is just a tax thing...... I know, Ill burn in hell. I do buy into him but not this....

I don't really understand why people say things like this. It generally just demonstrates that people don't understand how tax works...

1. It isn't the case that if he donates a million he saves 3 million elsewhere; it still costs him 1 million, there is no net off benefit for further tax savings.
2. Even if it is 100% tax deductable (which it won't be), he has still given 1 million to charity instead of the tax man; worst case is that he has decided a charity would be better off with the money than HMRC.
3. It isn't 100% tax deductible, generally, which means that he is still out of pocket for more than he would otherwise have been had he just paid the tax.

People are never happy.

Good man, Rory.

The thing is, it isn't a one off donation, its an ongoing project and McIlroy seems dedicated to continue to grow this charity and the care it can offer. I've been vocal in the past about some of his off course antics (the way he called the wedding off, the management wrangling etc) but I hold my hands up and say this has changed my opinion totally
