Always had a problem with rich celebs who turn up for an hour to put there face on TV to support a charity but not actually donated a penny. but Mr Mcilroy has really gone up my my estimation for his gesture. Good on him

Just out of interest, which particular celebrities do you know of that show up and don't donate?

I was thinking the same thing. I am sure there are celebrities that just donate as their manager has told them it would be good for their image, but I expect they do donate, and don't just turn up to get the publicity and then bugger off.

Watched the interview on Golf World last night (sky +) and he came across as a really genuine down to earth guy. I think its great he can switch between being a steely, focused, determined almost arrogant player during tournament time and a top bloke off the course. Somewhat of a rare trait in a world class sportsman today.

Sorry, always been a Rory fan and still am but this is just a tax thing...... I know, Ill burn in hell. I do buy into him but not this....

It's still costing him the amount left after the tax deduction.

I dont think tax is something he will be mega concerned with as his burden will be as low as possible due to being well managed elsewhere.

Even if it is then its better to help a good cause out of it rather than simply pay direct to the taxman.

Definitely uprated my opinion of him so  from me
