After the World Cup it was fairly inevitable but still sad to hear that Jonny has hung up his boots so far as international rugby is concerned.

He has always come across as the model professional and a thoroughly nice bloke as well giving me some of the greatest sporting memories that I will have (2003 will never be supassed).

Some of spoilt players coming through the professional era are simply not fit to tie his boots.

Having not even made it on to the pitch for Toulon at the weekend I suspect that his club days are winding down as well. Just hope that the England setup has a space for a man of his skill and integrity

A true legend of English and World rugby. He may not have been the greatest fly half ever, but he was certainly the architect of what a modern fly half should be in terms of defence, kicking and distribution, that has only now been redefined and taken to another level by Dan Carter. Granted his running with ball in hand wasn't as strong as the other aspects of his game, but when you could pass the ball as well as he could to a backline containing seriously talented players like Jason Robinson, Ben Cohen, Josh Lewsey, Dan Luger and Will Greenwood it didn't need to be. Wish him all the best with Toulon for the remainder of his time there and for the future.
