I remember the response to the fart in a spacesuit line on the Parky show and the no wonder they carry him around in a chair punchline to the two Glaswegians in Rome story.
Sadly diminished by an awful disease.

will ye geez a glass o that kwantro ...

And one that became part of our daily parlance - See you Judas - you're gettin' on ma tits...

In my eyes one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time. I can't say for them all as I haven't seen them but for many of the current generation he is one they all look up to as the benchmark. I've seen him live as well as on TV and he's always been excellent value.

One of my great regrets is never getting to see Ken Dodd live. At least I managed it with The Big Yin.

Quite simply the greatest comedian it has been my pleasure and good fortune to see live. The last time Mrs BiM & I saw him was the High Horse tour at the Hammersmith Odeon. Although diminished by his illness, he was unbowed. 15 minutes in he's into his "Spot the Symptoms" routine, turning the illness into more material. And the skit about being pulled over by the police after signing some autographs was even better.

As sad as the news is, I'm sitting here smiling for what we've had rather than being sad for what we've lost, and I think that's the way he'd want it. Thanks Big Yin.
