Wish me luck!

It's all experience Jon. Just enjoy tomorrow.

Any more nett dbl+ to adjust down? The 11 becomes an 8, you only need a few more and you might have buffered.

You're all knobs! :D

Well...that didn't go to plan

Started off ok with a bogey and a double bogey and two more bogeys before finally parring the par 3 6th.

Was striking the ball ok, and not really doing anything with the putter but it was steady.

Ended up with a 46 going out which was over handicap but OK I thought for my 1st club medal and 1st Club Championship.

Back 9 started ok. Still wasn't holing any putts or they were lipping out....Then the par 4 13th. S.I. 1. Off the whites it was playing like a par 5 today as it was into the wind. Hit a stonking drive and whipped out my 3 wood for the second. Proceeded to hook it (great strike though!) into no man's land on the 1st side of the hole and reloaded with a better strike. Ended up with a 7 which I wasn't too displeased with.

Where it all fell apart was the par 5 15th.

Tee shot - Straight pull (caught it lovely though :D) *just* too far left OOB into the farmers field.

Re-loaded - Hooked it straight left into the field.

Re-loaded (now with 2 iron) - pushed right onto the 17th green.

Ended up with 11 and stopped caring at this point. Still played some OK shots on the last 3 holes, but my putting had disappeared all day, along with my short game.

Finished with 101, the 1st time I've shot over 100 for a while and was pretty annoyed, but it's all experience. Currently sat 4th from bottom in my division (6th from bottom gross) in the standings after day one and as such am out in the second group tomorrow at 8:32.

At least the sun shone today, it's forecast torrential rain tomorrow

So all in all, a pretty poor day, but the company was good and I'm not last :D

Might be worth taking a calculator next time you play. :p :p

At least you have got the first competitive round out of the way. They should get easier now.

Nope. Already confirmed 0.1 increase.

I would enjoy tomorrow if it wasn't forecast torrential rain!

Oh well, at least the waterproofs and new shoes will finally get a test for their watertightness! :D

if somebody goes up .1 and so up to .5 or down with a good score, is this his new handicap for tomorrow? We had this debate last year when we first introduced a 36 hole comp last year and decided handicaps would not be adjusted until after both rounds.

Its taken into account straight away,as far as I know !!!
Just seems a bit odd possibly playing in the same competition off 2 different handicaps. What would happen if it was 36 on the same day and not enough time to inform everybody of changes.Possibly somebody could enter a wrong handicap on their scorecard than it actually was?

back to the original thread though, AZ, Did you feel you lost it on your second shot to 13,or was it after that?, Not the best time to hit over the 100,but its out of the way now mate,at least you can go out tomorrow a bit more relaxed and play the way you know you can, good luck for the morning!!..

No, I felt OK despite the lost ball. It was the 15th tee that it felt like the wheels came off!

Andy - Yes it's open to all. They have best gross (Club Champion) best Nett and 3 Handicap Division winners.

They do have a set number of entrants though. I think they limit it to 82 people so they don't take up the tee times all day as it's still a pay and play course.

Your original handicap will count for the whole of the comp as far as the result of the comp is concerned but the new handicap (if any) will be used to calculate any handicap movements from the 2nd round.

You stay off the same h/c for the comp but....when sorting your h/c out afterwards the first round will be taken into account and any adjustments will be made before doing the 2nd round scores

We have a number of comps spread over bank holiday weekends where you can play two rounds over any three of the days. The handicaps don't get adjusted until after you've put both rounds in. I'm guessing your club chamsp may be the same. Mind you 0.1 is 0.1 but like you say at least your not out first and the course will be in (almost) pristine condition for you

Hard luck mate. We've all been there. Tomorrow is another day.

One thing I noticed that you said you stopped caring after the disaster on 15. I used to get like that but I have actually found it is much better to stay focused and carry on trying just as hard in those situations. It is good mental discipline and gets you used to putting what has happened behind you. Sometimes it helps to set yourself a new target to see you through. Tell yourself you are going to finish with 3 pars or whatever. I always feel better at the end as well if I do manage to keep focused and finish well.

Actually, funny you should say that because I did just that. When I say I stopped caring it was more 'the score will be high, what will be will be' but said to myself to try and finish strong (I didn't lol)

At least I'm not last, which is always a bonus.
