Winter greens, what does your club do.

We have temp greens mown into the fairways. It been a bit of a bugbear of mine (and quite a few other members) the last couple of years as the greenkeeper has been putting the winter greens and tees in play far too easily. Granted the bottom of the course does get very wet and boggy i the winter but last winter for instance they were put into play after a small amount of rain and then stayed in all the way through to the spring, when to my mind the full greens were perfectly playable. However the greenkeeper left a few weeks ago and has been replaced with a guy who is highly experienced apparently. Within two weeks of his starting the greens have improved loads so hopefully he will make the winter situation better.

We have temp greens, mown into a patch of fairway along with a winter (large diameter) hole and will go onto these in frost. Annoyingly the club put us on them last Sunday when the frost didn't seem too hard and was clearly out of the ground by around nine. Seemed a knee jerk reaction and lazy not to then open the greens fully. Hope it won't be a winter of temps and the club don't over react. I totally get the need to protect the greens from damage but it shouldn't just be a lazy option

Mostly beans, broccoli and sprouts....

A good choice. Sprouts get a bad rep but are great, in season and properly cooked.
