I think it's time to buy something for the winter, incase it gets too wet to play with what I would normally wear. I have a red "mac" but this wont cut the mustard in heavy rain, its not breathable and I still get wet underneath. I thought I would buy a pair of trousers too, because I hate getting all wet on the legs, its just nasty...

Has anyone tried this suit from Nike?

Seems to be ok and what I'm looking for. Any other ideas on what to buy or from where? I have to have a plain red top though. Trousers can be any colour I want but the top must be plain pillar box red.

Cheers

why does the top have to be red?

The nike are a decent suit and on par with nmost around that price point. I dont there are many that do red anyway so you may already be limited

I almost purchased one of these suits last winter but when I tried it on in the store it felt really cheaply made. I'd recommend looking at the ProQuip range. I got a pait of trousers for £40 and then bought a separate jacket although that wasn't ProQuip as I got caught short when out at a course and the heavens opened so had to purchase whatever they had in the pro shop.

Cheers swanny, hmmm thats not good then. I might nip down to AG this week and try for myself then, maybe they've changed the feel slightly because everyone say's theyre a "New" product.

I've had a quick look at the Proquip stuff online but nothing in red :-( Has to be red because thats the rules of the conservator's who look after the common.

If you don't want it in red go to Nike.com, that's wherei ordered mine. Supposed to arrive in a few days, so I'll tell you how I get on

As the OP is from Surrey, I would guess he is a member or plays at Wimbledon common, which I believe has a rule that golfers must wear red tops.

See the paragraph playing conditions.

Cheers Danny, thats one to look at thats for sure. Will a 100% polyester lightweight top be ok for heavy rain? Its the same as the Nike one too, I'm guessing they will be ok..

@surefire, yes indeedy, it's all to do with the rules set by the conservators so the public can easily identify the golfers (although to be fair I think it should be the other way round!!)

Folks I have to admit that having come from a mountaineering background before golf, I baulk at the price of golf clothing compared to mountain stuff which is more functional, just as good a fit and better designed for bad weather. There is mountain stuff which is far more expensive but designed for much harsher conditions but given what I know I'd recommend the following two sites for starters and decide for yourself if you'd rather stick with Nike etc.

The only problem with wearing something not designed for golf is that the materials used in outdoor jackets are usually not very silent when swinging a golf club. Most golf jackets are made of softer materials and are less restrictive in design.

You tried swinging with a hood up?

Golf waterproofs are designed to be light and quiet so not to cause interference in your swing.

FuncFactory, Cross or Galvin Green would be my 1st choice.

True of older materials and designs but not so much these days. The crisp packet sound is fast disappearing but a lot of jackets that are soft and quiet aren't actually waterproof.

Guys the movement and comfort requirement of a golf jacket are no different than that of a waterproof climbing jacket. Some settle for less comfort but the cut gives the same movement.
Anyhow, golfers probably want the golf labels in the same way some climbers want the 'must show' label but either way, it is an option worth considering.

You must have a hole in yours beacause all of mine are.

I've 2 Proquip, 2 Galvin Green, 1 Sunderland and 1 Func Factory and none leak. I'll soon be adding a Cross to the list but have every faith it'll perform as intended unless its manufacture is faulty.
