Wilson 'FG' irons

Yesterday while having a wander round the AG shop at the range I saw the Wilson FG Tour V2 irons, and thought that for the money (£549) they looked great.

Next to a similar set of forged Mizzys (£649), Titleist (£699) and Callaway (£749) I thought they looked just as classy. Although they seem to have targeted the new golfer with their all in one sets and SGI/GI clubs, I have always liked the look of their higher end clubs and wondered if anyone uses them as they dont get much mention on here.

Also the FG62 blades look every bit as good as the MP69's and Titleist MB's as well.

So do we have any Wilson Staff fanboys on the forum... what are they like?

I have NO Wilson gear
But I did think the Last Model FG TOUR Irons were great looking clubs
Ive not sen the replacement V2 range yet...........
But I think great value Forged Irons, compared to 'cast' Razr Callys......etc

Honestly, I'd be looking round a lot of other places before I got to the stage of considering buying a set of irons from AG.

Re -- American Golf
Its probably still the best place to see the Most New Gear in the flesh, and at 1st release
Cos I doubt anybody else stocks so much of so many Diff brands
But, for me, NO, I very rarely buy from them
Although their prices are becoming more competitive, and my local store, will be flexible, IF U ASK
But their Part Ex prices are CRAP ..... To say the least

I've got a set of FG59 tour blades and I love them. I think they are one of the best looking clubs I've seen. Very solid feel and great ball flight when you middle them. The heads on them are very small even for blades, much smaller than the snakeyes blades I had previously, but they are very easy to hit. I had a set of headcovers for them but I dont use them now as they look too good to cover up.

I am a huge Wilson Staff fan… however I tread with caution… Some stuff is brilliant, other stuff is the opposite!

I love my Wilson clubs, but recently they have started to head towards the SGI and I hate them.

The better quality clubs though are the real deal, but for usually 15% less the price of Titleist/Ping/Mizuno etc.

The irons are almost as good, if not as good as the rest, however, I wouldn't touch another of their woods again. Look cheap and tacky.

Have a good play, you might be surprised!

I couldnt agree more but it is good to go and have a look and see what is out there, sometimes pick up cheap stuff in their sales etc but wouldnt buy from there. And they are on my way home from the office.

There's Pro-Staff Wilson and there's Wilson Staff.
Only Wilson Staff gear is worth looking at.
The FG rabge is quite good, I know some who have used the FG Tour irons and liked them.

AG will price match any genuine internet price.
A while back I bought a driver from them, they looked online and reduced the price by £15 to match....

Don't ask, don't get.

I use a Wilson starter set and think they are great. Does exactly what I need. The clubs look lovely, they dont look any different or inferior to anything else Ive seen. Get quite a few compliments on them actually. I have no complaints about the woods either, the ball goes pretty much where I want it to go!

The only thing I changed was the putter, but thats because I fell in love with the Odyssey in Portugal.

One of the guys at the club have the older fg tours which look identical to cally fusions. The high end stuff looks sleek,

Always liked Wilson.

They were a top brand when I first started in the 1970's and into the 80's (along with MacGregor, Spalding, Ram, Hogan and Dunlop - how times change!). Had some Sam Snead and Blue Ridge clubs as a kid - probably a lot of my generation did.

Wilson irons have won 62 majors, hence FG62. They have to be one of the best looking clubs ever made.

Never liked the fat shafts though.

Makes me smile when I sometimes see them referred to as a lesser brand.

If your proficient enough in hitting a ball mate then you should have no issues with the FG's....
I played these when i was off 21 and struggled with them but it was the indian that the problem was with not the arrows.I regretted selling them ever since. They are butter when hit well....
Im getting rid of my i10's for them this month even though im hitting my i10's fine. But iv always had a soft spot for the FG's...
They are exactly the same size as my i10's which i like and there is a nice bit of forgiveness in them too for a players iron..
They have a progressive offset in them which means there is more in the longer irons for that extra little bit of help....
One thing i will say is from doing a little homework on both sets i think that the cavity in the newer ones is slightly deeper but there is less offset..
So im not sure what that means...
But im sure you wont find them too hard to hit..
