Will Westwood win a major?

I know that gir would differ big time, but an average of 7 putts difference per round!!!!! Even one putt per round better would have got him 2clear.

To my memory he missed 2putts of less than 2ft too!! One of those was so close that if he marked it again it would have fallen in!!!:)

dont get me wrong, his putting was awful, I think if he has got that Eagle on 15 he would have biridied 17 and 18 and got into the play off, buit as you say over the 4 days if he had putted anything like decent he would probably been 15-20 under par.

Always next year eh?

Bizarrely I think the important question is how long can he keep his standards up tee to green. If he carries on hitting it like this for a few more years then surely one week it has to click on the greens and he will win one.

But his short game will nevr be good enough to scramble a major win when he doesn't play well, so if his standrads slip even slightly I don't see it.

And the field is getting deeper and deeper with every major.

I have to agree here his driving, woods and iron play are fantastic but generally from 50 yards in he is seriously week he needs to improve if he will ever win a major. But at this stage I doubt he will.

Not a chance ,his short game is shocking for someome of his ability, bite the bullet ask Mickelson for a lesson even Paul Lawrie these guys have short games, never mind these so called guru's ask players, never mind Roe either he won feck all and is a total knob.

If Ben Curtis and Darren Clark can, then im sure Lee can also.

Clarkes not the best putter, but he got over the line.

I totally agree with this statement regarding Mark Roe,short game Guru my backside if he were any good he would still be playing and winning instead of talking a good game, there is a massive difference between a pro golfer and a successfull pro golfer. There are thousands of pro's in shops up and down the country who struggle to keep a single figure handicap and they are teaching people.

There's every possibility he will get his consolation major at some point but if someone of his level hasn't got his putting sorted by the age of 37 then perhaps he never will.

Interesting
Ben Hogan must be looking down with great sympathy

I heard them say at the start of the BBC coverage last night, that whoever putts best wins - was it Player who said that ?
Well, i would have been really happy for Oosterhuizen to win - he played well most of the way round, and putted sublimely, with great guts
But he lost
I dont actually remember Bubba making loads of tough and great putts, so it was presumably his driving, irons and short game that won it for him.
Which is suprising at Augusta.
But good for Westwood.

Mark McWhateverhisnamewas (Tiger's mate) won 2 majors and contended in others at a similar age or older.

Maybe Lee should get together with Tiger - Lee can teach him how to hit straight and Tiger can teach him how to chip and putt :)

I reckon he will def win one. At the end of the day he only finished 2 shots back yesterday. Even a half decent showing on the greens and he would have walked it.He deserves it.

I'm not a Mark Roe fan however to be fair to Roe the late great Seve used to seek out Roe if he needed competitive chipping practice or competition. That is a huge accolade.

Back to Westwood. Stockton seems to have brought Rors putting on no end. Must be worth a gamble surely.

Westwood is definately good enough to win a Major.

The Monty comparison is interesting as the same could have been said of him. However Monty's game didn't really suit Augusta or links golf and the USPGA played in hot humid August wasn't really a good event for him. That just left the US Open as his best chance each year.

I think Lee has the game to compete at any of the Majors. He has shown that. His recent form in the Majors is pretty good and I think over the next 2 years he may even win a couple. US Open greens are often tricked up very fast but there is a premuim on hitting fairways and greens which is what Lee does best and might even things out.

BUT putting is very much in the mind and if the putting thing gets to him and he starts to feel that it is never going to be "his day" on the greens then I think he may end his carerer without a major, which would be sad.
