I seriously doubt it after yet another lacklustre performance on the greens. I do not think his putting is strong enough to take a major. I think we have another Monty on our hands,a wonderfull player but no major in the cabinet to top off a marvelous career.

I think his best chance is winning the Open where greens are usually a bt islower than in the US. Should make it slightly easier but he still needs to work on his putting. He should try a mallet and/or belly....its worked for others!

Think he has tried both types before and went back to a blade. I think the putting issue is mental not physical, roe pointed out how smooth is practice stroke was in comparison to his strike when playing the ball.
Tee to green he is awesome, but unless he finds form with a putter then he will never win a major.
Maybe if the conditions get very tough, high winds and rain so people miss lots of greens he could win by default..... :)

I think he will - his putting has improved over the past few years and all that is lacking is a bit of consistency over four rounds.

He came close this week as he started well, which he hasn't done for a while and it was his third round which let him down. I'm sure Lee and his team know what to do and there are three more majors left this year.

I firmly believe he will win one, he's too good and with a sprinkling of good fortune and some more putts dropping it will come good.

I think he will win simply because his tee to green game is so good and eventually he will have a tournament where the putts drop - like we all dream of:whistle:. The putting is a mental thing rather than anything wrong with technique and a good putting round or three will do wonders, fingers crossed.

He deserves to win one but that doesn't mean he will. I think he has a look of perennial bridesmaid about him now. Unlike Luke and a few other non-major winners, he hasn't won a World Golf championship event either.

The way I look at it.

Is Westwood as good as Monty was? - NO

Did Monty ever win a major? - NO

Will Westwood ever win a major? - Not a chance. End of discussion.

Was it me or did he actually look really upset in his interview after as though he'd realised this was a guilt edged chance gone. I wonder why he doesn't bite the bullet and use Stockton or Pelz as they are the recognised leaders in the putting field. Heck why not ask Rotella too. Seemed to help Clarke

Or back with Mark Roe! ;)

Yeah, I think he will win one at least.

He doesn't even need an amazing putting week either. Even a decent week on the cut & prepared this week would have seen him win by 4 or 5.

21 extra putts over 3rounds compared to mickelson (not sure of 4round difference) and matching his total is astonishing

Hold on a minute did I watch something totally different to the rest of you. Did he not finish 2 shots off the lead in 3rd place? Ok so he does need to start having the putts dropping but is he really that bad? He will win majors, his game from tee to green is too good not to. Over 4 rounds of golf he lost out on the play-off by 2 putts. If he finished 4 or 5 shots back then fair enough, you have got to question if he is good enough.

Heart-breaking to watch such wonderful ball-striking not receving its due reward.

I still think Westy can win a major though. His problems are technical not mental ... yet!

Heck why not ask Rotella too.

he has used Rotella before, I remember he did before the Open last year and it didnt really improve.

I think he will carry out a mojor overhaul of his stroke, look at mickelson with his dstance anf forward press, there are so many things he could change to get more consistent. The belly putter will be used real soon and he will win 3-4 majors

I agree but was thinking it was probably an unfair comparison, I bet if you compare putts per GIR there would be a difference but more like 7 or 8. Mickelson was hacking it round dont forget and he is the best around the greens at Augusta so would have had a lot of 1 putts.

I mean come on, 77 Putts over 54 holes is an average of just over 25 a round, that is super low never mind at Augusta!!
