handed in 3 cards for my first ever handicap and got a 27. that was 2 weeks ago and since then a lesson or two has drasticly improved my game. today i scored 43 points (non comp round)

however, the captin said my handicap can only go up or down if i play comps. but in between now and my next 'works' comp i cant fit any competition games inn. so,,,, if i score a 43 with a handicap of 27 will i get hung from the nearest tree or should i ask for it to be adjusted?

39 points won my last works comp.

43 is a good score but by no means a bandit score, do it 2,3 or 4 times in a row then yes you will expect either a big cut or a few names.

If they gave you a 27 handicap that is what it is. As Brendy says 43 is not true "bandit" country. Enjoy the decent scores and never apologise for them, you put cards in and will do so in the future and if you play well you will get cut. Most comments about bandits is just golf club banter and unless you score 56 points I wouldn't worry too much.

Don't cut yourself out of winning as you will eventually get to a handicap where it's unlikely that you will win at all.

Also remember that comp' rounds and non-comp' rounds seem a little different when we play them and we often end up scoring better in the latter.

Not strictly true - if your course is acepting handicap cards at the moment you can submit a supplementary card provided you register that you are submitting a card before you play. I believe this is then assessed as any competition card would be but using the SSS rather than the CSS.

Problem is you could still have the bad round and get the dreaded .1 :(

If it is a works comp then surely it won't be an official club comp anyway so they can't make any adjustment. If you go out in the next club comp and shoot low then you'll get your just reward with a decent cut anyway. Hoewever trying to do it for real in a compe especially if you know there is a good score being made is real squeaky bum time and not always guaranteed that you'll get the job done

Don't woory about Smiffy's comment. There is a spot reserved especially for him and his mobility scooter
