Quite simply another story of American hype killing raw talent. Happens a lot in their big sports like American football and especially basketball where some college kid is going to be the next Peyton Manning or Shaquile O'Neil and is offered loads of $ up front. All that happens is that they get fatigued too quickly, pick up injuries at training camp, get rushed back too soon to comply with sponsor and TV network requests and have gone off the radar by 25.

The same will happen to Wie whereby she will lose her USPGA tour card, not be good enough to get it back, rely on sponsors invites for several years to play on the womens tour then fade away. She'll continue to play xx number of mens events to keep the cash cow flowing and once the media get tired of her hacking 80+ on the mens cicuit that will be her career in the gutter.

Not sure how much is the fault of the management company, her coaches and family. There comes a time when every sportsman/woman has to make their own decisions. Some knuckle down and make the best of very limited talent (Vinny Jones) while others (Gasgoine, Best etc) squander theirs. Sadly it is those who have more talent in their big toe than most have in a whole career that seem to fall of the rails. Wie could have been the next Ococha or Sorenstam, and at least on a par with Gulbis and Creamer but the chances of that are now very remote.

A very sad tale that will only get worse

The last time I talked about this I was branded a dinosaur by some uppity reader who completely missed my point.

Women should play in women's events, men should play in men's events and ne'er the twain should meet. If you want mixed events, then create them a la tennis and have mixed foursomes or something.

That is, unless the LPGA are happy to drop the L and have men entering their events?

Wie should be excluded from any men's event along with any other woman and all men should be excluded from any ladies' event - it really is that simple.

It is quite interesting having a skins event, where the best women are mixed with some of the men, because it gives an opportunity to compare styles of play, and see how good they are.

It is also interesting to see some of the women (Sorenstam) in the Tavistock cup, for the same reasons.

Wie could play in these (if invited) to sate her appetite for playing with the men, but she will never be seriously competitive on the PGA tour.

Wie's reply:

"There are going to be criticisms entering this tournament," said Wie.

"But at the same time I'm just doing what I feel like I want to do and it's going to be a lot of fun."

While most of the top women golfers descend on Sunningdale, the 18-year-old Wie is in Reno, Nevada, making her eighth US Tour appearance.

But the American, who has never made a cut in a men's event, has plunged down to 244th in the women's rankings, and risks becoming one of the curiosities of the game, rather than the outstanding champion she once seemed destined to be.

She added: "People are going to write hateful stuff about me and that's fine with me. Good rounds and low scores can solve everything."

YAWN!!!!!!!!

I'm sick of hearing about her...... until she starts winning and maintains some consistency, how can we possibly take her seriously.

She is a sponsors dream cos she attracts so much press, she's like a freak show.
