Why should 5 day members get a discount on their subs? Should 7 day members have to subsidise their play? They still get all the facilities, they get their comps and handicaps, they play the course at better times mostly without booking on, they also get the course in better condition as the green keepers have more time to prepare the course for play after the weekend as they work on it all day. Is it just a case of rip off Britain.

Definitely a premium for weekend golfing.
My place is £485 for 5 day and £725 for 7 day. To the Golf Centre. Everyone then pays a further £50 to the club for GUI etc.

Thats £240 extra and for the guys who only get out on a Saturday and no other days its alot of money for 6 months golf with the weather we have had the past few years.

Totally, do you not think it is a viable question?

Simply on the basis that they are getting 2 days less golf per week I don't think it's a viable question. As a 7 day member I can still play the course at the quiet times that the 5 day members do, I just have the option to play at the weekend as well. I also have a greater choice of competitions to play in. As I get this much more, why shouldn't I pay more? Don't get your logic at all.

I always referred to my 7-day membership as a 2-day one anyway!

It's called Supply and Demand - or a Market!

My logic is based on the fact that 70/80% of 7 day members are restricted in the golf they can viably play due to work commitments. This means instead of playing golf they are stuck in the office, then when they get the chance to play they have to pay more to do it. I do however know as in everything there are exceptions to that rule and we all know people that work who live at the course after work but they are in the minority and it is those minorities you will use as your examples.

I'm guessing if 7 day members can only get out of a weekend then maybe club membership isn't the way forward for them. If it wasnt for 5 day members at our club we wouldn't have a club simple as that really.

If its all about money then the "new" wave of "pay and play" "memberships" should help.

I have been a 5 day member this year when I was without a job. I still had time to play on the weekend but didn't. Everyone else you know is playing and you are stuck at home. Try being a 5 day member for a year and see how you feel about it then!

1] Your course would be empty mid week
2]You would then have to pay more for your 7 day membership
3]Your Pro and caterers would have to leave as the would not earn a living
4]Your greenstaff would be reduced to cope with the loss of income

I don't think you have thought this one through?

I think the only viable point to come from this could be....................these 5 dayers could pay for 7 days, more revenue, if the 5 day deal was done away.

But money is tight, so is it a viable option and would any club take the risk in fear of losing the 5 dayers.

You beat me to it. 5 day members provide a very valuable subsidy for my 7 day membership whilst also being considerate enough to keep the course clearer when I have the majority of my free time. It's a symbiotic relationship and if you insist on trying to charge the existing 5 day members the full whack they will either clear off, leaving a hole in the finances that I will have to make up in increased subs, or they will start clogging up the course at the weekends that they are now forced to pay for, thus diminishing my playing opportunities, which may well mean that some 7 day members clear off to a less crowded course, leaving a hole in the finances that I will have to make up.

When you go to Thomas Cook's for your holiday, do you expect to pay the same price for a 5 day break as a 7 day break?

They should pay less because they generally are not allowed to play weekend comps. If I couldn't play comps I'd ditch membership altogether I reckon.

Might make for jammed courses though??

I agree..
Say £750 for Full. £500 for 5 day, £250 for weekend only.
5 hour rounds would be a thing of the past - you'd be looking at 6 or 7.......

How many 7 dayers play after work in the Summer?
Ok, not viable in the Winter but a 7dayer has the potential to play every day.
Many Full Members play both days at the weekend and although many Midweek members play 3-5 times a week, many will only get out twice.....
