just shoot a decent score in a medal comp or stableford comp

played today in a midweek medal add a good front 9
1 under handicapp 42, then came the back 9
21 over on the back 57, 99 blows i'm gutted

when i play with me mate's and the score don't mean nothing it all go's ok, i can play to my handicapp or sometimes better when not playing a comp

why is it every god's time i play in a comp i go to pieces :(

sorry for the long post just very

yeh oddsocks my mate's are member's were i play so playoff the whites tees

but even if i play on my own i can play ok

every time i'm playing in a comp i just can't stop thinking
about my score,

this is what's in my head when playing, if i just par the next 2 holes or if i can make birdie on the 9th and the 12th and i'm only still on the 5th hole

may sound silly but i did the same kind off thing starting a round good and trying to keep it to gether then some body on there was recomending books and this on came up so i got only a few £ but is well worth it and has helped me a great deal had a nett 61 a few weeks ago not thinking about the score as much

book called Your 15th Club by Bob Rotella

try it,it may just help

Your doing something we all do, chase a score. I'm the worst for it, can be +2 after 6, yet finish the 9th +10. Play each hole at a time and do not add your score up as you go

Hmmmmmm

Now I wonder what the problem is

;)

There are two main ways to stop this;

1) Play so many comps you get blase about them.

2) Have a 'switch on' trigger ( like Homer does ) then just talk about anything except golf between shots and then just think about the shot in play as you approach the ball.

GL next time out

:)

just can't help it

it don't help when u got a skycaddie that tell's u your score after every hole i think next time i play i won't enable the score card on my skycaddie

It's always harder with a card and pencil in hand. It sounds like the classic case of trying too hard and not sticking to a game plan. If you get in trouble get it back the shortest way and if you have a bad hole forget it. Nothing worse than trying too hard to get the lost shots back and compounding the problem

Theres your problem! I have the same issue eith the iPhone gps, you see that magic number and chase it

So if you're skycaddie didn't tell you your score you wouldn't know what it was? I've said it before but I don't get that, I always know how far over par I am, it's not exactly rocket science to keep track of.

about my score,

yep that can trash a good round.

It's a fine line to tread when you have a card in your hand, in one hand it makes you think about managing your way round the course and not throwing shots away and keeping frustrations in check. Versus
Not over thinking about holes you have still to play, coping with the added pressure, swing thoughts, analysing miss hits.

It is to easy to lose focus and concentration.

Over thinking a round can be as bad as 3 putting, slicing OOB and thining a chip etc. It is an element of the game that needs to be worked on.

Competetions enduce pressure which will always cause people to struggle.

Usually because we try too hard. next time you in a comp try just swinging at 75-80% power and keep everything nice and smooth. you will be suprised how well you play when you take it easy and relax. easier said than done I'm all too aware. But the best thing ive found for getting past comp nerves is to swing easy and concentrate on just striking each ball well in turn.
